Panther Nation
March 2020
From the Office of the MS/HS
I am sure, at some point, you have seen one of the numerous DirectTV commercials from a few years ago involving "The Settlers". Their motto is, "We settle." While it makes for a funny advertisement, it is definitely an attitude which can be detrimental in the field of education. As we enter the the month of March and the home stretch of the 2019-2020 school year, we can decide on one of two approaches to finish the year. As teachers, we can do what we have always done and settle for the traditional ways or we can adapt to the methodologies in which education has changed and incorporate numerous strategies for learning. As students, we can settle for being average, or strive for learning outcomes which will set us apart from those who are competing with us for awards, scholarships, jobs and college admissions.
I challenge all of us to reflect on everything we do, from our teaching and learning in the classroom to how we perform on the ball field or court. Are we "settling" because "it's what we do" or are we working for a seat at the table of influence in our schools and communities? Every experience is a learning one and prepares us for what we want to become and who we want to be. Only we can decide for ourselves. Do we "settle" or do we grow to become better in every aspect of life?
I hope you enjoy this month's addition of Panther Nation!
