A reminder from the nurses
Bring a water bottle to school
It’s so important to stay hydrated. Dehydration can cause headaches and make it hard to concentrate. Get fresh water every morning and refill your bottle after lunch.
Wear your mask correctly
Your mask should be covering your nose and mouth at all times. If your mask is falling down stop in to visit your nurse. She will help you adjust it to fit better or give you a new mask if you need one.
STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK
If you are not feeling well stay home. We understand that navigating through the list of CoronaVirus symptoms can be confusing. If you have questions, call your nurse. We are happy to help.

YSS Volunteer Leader and Service Award - Boone County
Kelly Curvin!
Kelly truly exemplifies what it means to be a champion for YSS programs! As one of the Boone Middle School secretaries she is actively involved in supporting YSS programming at the middle school. During the 2019-2020 school year Kelly became a mentor herself even though she rarely has an extra moment in her day.
Kelly sees the value of mentorship at the Boone Middle School. This is shown through her commitment to supporting the program and mentors. Kelly is always responsive to YSS needs and is a great communicator. She recruits potential mentors and plays an active role in monitoring and supporting mentoring pairs. She stays on top of the mentoring schedule, knows what mentors are coming and when. If a student is absent, she lets the mentoring facilitator know so the mentor can be contacted. She also communicates when a mentor doesn’t come in or if she is aware of a mentee acting in a way that needs to be addressed by mentoring staff. The mentoring program would not be what it is at Boone Middle School without her. She truly is an extension of the YSS Mentoring team.
Each year students in the mentoring program are asked to share, “what has having a mentor meant to you”. Kelly’s mentee shared, “A mentor has provided a great friendship and it also makes me want to be a mentor as well!” One of the greatest gifts someone can give another person is to inspire them to give back in the same way that someone has given to them. Kelly inspires us all to be kind and to support others.

Dear Iowa Teachers,
The State Treasurer’s Office and College Savings Iowa are celebrating the end of the year and the gift-giving season by giving away 100 College Savings Iowa contributions!
