NAPLAN Online in 2018

What does this mean to Year 3 and 5 students at HRSS?

Highland Reserve State School

In 2018, Highland Reserve State School's Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) Online. Online assessment brings many new opportunities that are often limited or not possible with paper-based tests. We are excited and ready to be part of NAPLAN Online, 2018.

NAPLAN Online will provide better assessment, more precise results and faster turnaround of information. Assessments will use an adaptive ‘tailored test design’, which gives students questions better suited to their achievement level. This form of testing will help teachers customise their teaching more specifically to student needs.

Q & A

Q. Why is NAPLAN going online?

A. Moving NAPLAN online allows for better and more varied assessment tasks and a personalised test experience. It also means your child’s results will be more precise and available to you within a couple of weeks, rather than several months.

Q. When is it happening?

The Education Council, comprising state, territory and commonwealth education ministers, agreed that NAPLAN online would be implemented from 2017 over a 2-to 3 year period. For 540 Queensland schools, including HRSS, 2018 is when we will complete NAPLAN online. For other schools across Queensland, it will be 2019.

Q. Does HRSS have enough devices, and enough bandwidth?

HRSS have been preparing for NAPLAN online, including working with technicians to ensure we have sufficient devices and bandwidth. We will be using laptop computers for students to complete the assessment.

Q. Are our children ready?

Completing digital tasks and digital assessment is part of what students at HRSS do on a regular basis. Our children are ready.

Q. Can I help my child prepare?

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students have already been learning through the school curriculum. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the online test formats and will provide appropriate support and guidance. Parents can also familiarise themselves with the testing experience by using the public demonstration site available at www.nap.edu.au
