Mills Moments

Friday, March 11th, 2022

Hello Mills Families,

We have received communications recently from individuals living around John Mills School as well as parents reporting traffic and safety concerns for the students because of the pick up and drop off system not being followed. Please be mindful of the procedure shared about the system in place in our attempt to keep the students and their families safe coming to and going from school. Partnering together will keep the John Mills School community safer.

All 5th grade students will take the ISA (Illinois Science Assessment) the last week of March. The Illinois State Board of Education requires all public school fifth grade students take this test as a measure of their science knowledge. The test is computer-based and will be administered in three parts during the school day. More information will be sent home to 5th grade families next week.

Today is International SEL Day and as we celebrate, we are proud of the positive strides our students are making with increasing responsible decision making, social awareness, self awareness, self management, and relationship skills. It has been a journey this year and we are proud of the partnership with our students and their families to encourage students being responsible and respectful to themselves and others. This is part of having Trojan Pride.

Also, if you haven't already, view your child's report card! See how to view your child's report card by clicking below. We encourage families to view the report cards together and encouraging students to take the lead sharing their areas of strength as well as areas they see as a goal for improvement and plan ways to celebrate your student's achievements. Please contact Ms. Gomez, Assistant Principal, if you need assistance-

Social Emotional Learning Day 3.11.22

Read along to the story 'The Good Egg' with your student(s). The book is about an egg who is always doing what it should, even taking care of the other eggs who are not doing their best. When the Good Egg's own shell starts to crack, it realizes that balance and self care is more important than perfection.
