Eastside: The Greatest School
"No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else."
Eastside Mission & Vision
Working in partnership with the community, Eastside Elementary will provide all students:
A collaborative team of professionals who are committed to improve their practices, so that all students learn at high levels
A safe, positive, and inviting learning environment
An engaging and challenging curriculum focused on essential academics and life skills
Individualized and timely support that provides students with what they need to succeed
Ringleader of the Week and The Big Top Team
The Big Top Team of the Week is 3rd grade! They earned this for creating some very engaging lessons in the first nine weeks for their students such as Mrs. Franklin's science labs, Mrs. Robertson's restaurant, and Mrs. Gentry's text feature surgery.
A Personal Story of My Weekend
All in all, the reflection from this left me thinking about how we are doing the right work this year! We are using data and assessments to really get to the heart of the diagnosis kid by kid and skill by skill!
I have to say being in MAP progress monitoring for 2nd and 3rd grade students on Friday was so exciting! We had some students grow 15 to 32 points from their last progress monitoring score! What we are doing is working! Have confidence and keep striving for the BEST!
Details for the Week
A few reminders to help prepare for conferences on Tuesday.
- Take a bird's eye view of your room. Make sure it is neat and free of clutter.
- Make sure the work outside your hallway displays a museum of rigorous activities.
- Be sure your appearance is professional on conference night.
- With the student led conference, make sure students are sharing their data binder.
- When you speak with the parents, remember the compliment sandwich. Start with a positive comment about their child. Also, be sure to end on a positive note. If you share with the parent how you have connected with their child on a personal level, parents will appreciate this.
- Be honest! Parents need to know where their child is at academically and if you try and sugar coat it so they do not get mad at you then you are not helping the situation. Be honest about what you are doing and how the child is performing. If the child is struggling then YOU NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING FOR THE PARENTS TO TAKE HOME TO BE ABLE TO ASSIST THERE CHILD! DON'T LET THEM LEAVE EMPTY HANDED! Get materials from the parent center or have other resources ready. The worst feeling as a parent is hearing that your child is struggling, but having no idea how to help them. ALL parents want to help their child. Always remember parents are doing the best they can for their children with the resources and skills they have. It's our job as the professionals and experts in the field to equip them with more resources.
- If you have a concern about absenteeism with a student, Mrs. Manning will be sending out a spreadsheet so you can place the time of their conference on the sheet. There will be three categories of concern: attendance (Hogg), behavior (Manning), and overall (Dunlap).

THANK YOU for everyone that helped with Fall Festival! It was a great turnout.
Please check all folders and send up money BEFORE you start testing so PTO can count money on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They are on tight timelines to turn in money counts so let's help them out and send up money first thing in morning.
Progress Monitoring and Documentation: No MAP Progress Monitoring this week due to Aspire testing, Dibels PM K-2. SIT documentation updates are for 3-5.
ACT Aspire interims are this week. We will be needing all chromebook and laptop carts for this, so plan accordingly.
Due to testing this week, we will celebrate with the students who had perfect attendance next week!
The STEAM room is officially open. This room is a room with a purpose. Make sure to network with Mrs. Barnhart and Mrs. Havens on how to incorporate it into a lesson. Look at both their schedules of when they are in the STEAM room to help you with planning a lesson or facilitate a lesson. Make sure to have Mrs. Barnhart train you on the 3D printer prior to using. Use the STEAM google calendar to sign up for a time.
If you borrowed a growth mindset picture book from me to read to your class, please return it to the office.
Don't forget to fill out the online field trip form for approval when planning a field trip. This is on the Google site. You will need to request transportation at least 10 days in advance and be sure to notify the cafeteria that you will be out on the particular days.
