Team Meadow Update
Week of April 29, 2019
Team Meadow -
Is anyone else finding it hard to believe that we are less than a month away from the last day of school? Seems like only a few weeks ago we were sitting in the PAC listening to Manny Scott as he challenged us to be a student's best hope. "Your faith in students plants a seed that can grow into their faith in themselves." Let's continue to plant those seeds of hope in our students as we remain focused on casting vision with our students throughout these last few weeks of school. We all know this is hard work that is not for the faint of heart, especially during these busy times. Continue to expand your high belief in what kids can do, and thank you for being some of the most dedicated, hard-working vision-casters I know.
Family Gathering is rescheduled for May 9th (not today). (1:30-2:15) Our family gathering will also include some singing from the Boone Meadow Voices.
Staffing Update - As you are already aware, we posted a Kindergarten position on Friday, which brings us to 6 Kindy sections. I've already received a number of candidates that have reached out to express their interest. In addition, I have already started some initial planning for anticipated maternity leaves for Carley (3rd) and Allison (Art).
Cleaning Out - On Friday, I referenced our need to declutter and clean out spaces to make room for our growth. Please take a good hard look at your planning rooms, and remove items not used and be sure to organize as we anticipate the need to share those spaces. Within your classrooms, you may want to consider using the organizer I provided at a staff meeting to audit your spaces (1. Diversity, 2. Social Learning & Community, 3. Aesthetic & Engaging). With larger enrollment, we are needing to add grade level sections, but we will most likely add support staff. Although numbers are not finalized, we anticipate adding IAs to support more students. Thanks for your careful attention and flexibility.
ILEARN - 3rd and 4th grade classrooms are deep in I-Learn this week this week and next. Thank you for reminding students to be mindful of others and use quiet voices as they travel the hallways during testing. NWEA testing is wrapping up this week as well.
End of Year Items - Our next staff meeting will have a portion of time set aside for End of Year items. Student profile forms will be coming your way. We are still working on a few details, and hope to get these items to you soon. We will also be sending a form for class lists.
STEM Visit (DOE) - May 21st (AM) - Please see information located below.
ZTEP/ZTEP+ Update - A quick review of some upcoming important items:
- By May 1st - (ZTEP+) This is the last day for teachers to upload feedback forms and reflections
- By May 5th - Last day for teachers to upload artifacts.
- As you receive your SLO data, you may begin submission of documentation (post-work) in SFS.
- SLO data is due to each teacher’s primary evaluator by 5 working days after the last teacher contract day for the school year. (Due June 5th)
Have a great day, team. Thanks for being flat-out amazing at this work that you do each day,
Tom
DOE STEM Visit
Team -
I've enclosed a portion of an email below that provides a little more insight to our upcoming visit from the IN Dept. of Ed on May 21st. Kara, Lauren, and I will be working on details of the visit. At this point, we don't have a lot of info to share, but I definitely want it on your radar.
Keep your eyes open for more information to come.
Thanks.
Dear Tom:
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) has contracted with STEM Innovations, LTD to conduct an evaluation of the IDOE STEM initiatives and investments. A part of this work will include making site visits to randomly selected Round 1 and Round 2 STEM Schools and STEM K-6 Acceleration grant programs.
Boone Meadow Elementary School has been selected as one that will be included in this evaluation. We would like to conduct your site visit on May 21, 2019. This site visit will take place from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Prior to the visit, the first component of the evaluation will be a pre-visit phone interview with the principal (approximately 30 minutes). This will be scheduled with Dr. Carla Johnson, President of STEM Innovations, LTD.
The components of the site visit include:
- Observing one full class period of your choosing for up to 60 minutes;
- Conducting a walk-through to briefly visit two additional classes for 10-minute observation period;
- Interviewing a group of 3-4 teachers regarding the STEM focus at the school and their experience.
Thank you for your willingness to help support our efforts of continuous improvement at IDOE.
