LIBERTY LEDGER
MAY 2022
*MESSAGE FROM MR. SMITH*
Dear CTA Liberty Families,
The month of May is here, and we are in the home stretch for the 21-22 school year. I spent a few minutes previewing the Liberty Ledger and I found myself getting a little sad that the school year is wrapping up soon. Reading the message from the sixth-grade teachers, the farewell to Ms. Miller, and the upcoming events this month, reminds me of all the great people and students we have at CTA Liberty. Ms. Miller was one of the original staff which opened CTA Liberty and she will be missed. There is something special when an educator decides to retire and leave the profession after so many years. Let's make sure we send her and our sixth-grade students off knowing that CTA Liberty will always be their home.
As we finish the year, there are so many people that worked and spent time volunteering to make this year successful. I want to make sure our PTO knows how much we appreciate all the support for our teachers, students, and community. It is not an easy job to do and the amount of time our PTO has put in this year is truly remarkable. They did so much to help bring us all together from the Fun Run Event to their support of Teacher Appreciation Week. From all the staff, THANK YOU!
Also, I would like to offer a big thank you to the CTA Liberty staff for working so hard each and every day with the Liberty students, whether it was just getting everyone through the day or putting in extra time afterschool to provide some extra help. Our teachers and staff made this year a wonderful year. THANK YOU!
Last but not least, thank you to all the volunteers and families that donated time and money to CTA Liberty. Our volunteers and community have always been incredibly supportive. THANK YOU!
In closing, thank you to the parents for choosing CTA Liberty as your school. We know you have choices and can attend other schools. We appreciate your support and commitment to CTA Liberty and look forward to seeing you in a few short months. Have a great month of May and a great summer.
Sincerely,
Mr. Smith, Principal
*HIGHLIGHTED EVENTS*
For Our Sixth Grade Class of 2021-22
Congratulations to our Liberty 6th grade class of 2021-22! We wish you the very best in your future endeavors as you head off to junior high. As you prepare to spend your final days on campus, continue to finish strong in your academic accomplishments and leave a legacy of kindness and compassion. You are encouraged to remember all that you have learned during your elementary years and hold on to the memories close to heart. Some of you have been here since kindergarten, others have joined along the way, and although this is a farewell, remember that “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle.”
Before our 6th graders depart the campus for the last time, the following activities have been planned as an end of the year highlight for the final days at Liberty:
- Kickball vs. Staff: Monday, May 24
- Round Robin Kickball Tournament: Tuesday, May 25th
- Pool Party at Mesquite Pool: Wednesday, May 26th
- Clap Out Celebration: Thursday, May 27th
Best of Luck,
Ms. Rinne, Mrs. Scott and Prof. Farmer
Farewell to Ms. Miller
After 24 years of service, Karen Miller, educator, mentor, leader, and friend to all, is retiring and saying a fond farewell to CTA Liberty, Chandler Unified School District. As a kindergarten, second, and fifth grade teacher at Liberty, Ms. Miller’s role extended beyond her classroom doorway. This exceptional teacher strived to always encourage and support her students, listen to their stories and concerns, and to lift them up with kindness, respect, and encouragement. Thank you, Ms. Miller, for shaping the young minds of our CTA Liberty Conventional and DLI students.
Ms. Miller, as you leave, remember the important words of Dr. Seuss:
“You’re off to great places,
Today is your day.
Your mountain is waiting,
So, get on your way!”
Thank you, Karen Miller, educator extraordinaire, for your 24 years of service. We will miss you!
Much love and best wishes,
All your friends and colleagues at CTA Liberty

CTA Liberty Choir at the Diamondbacks Game - Thank you
From the music room:
Thank you, Liberty Families, for attending the Diamondbacks game where our Voice of Liberty sang the National Anthem. Our choir students represented CTA Liberty very well. We received lots of compliments! We saw many of you there. Although the D'backs lost by one run, they put on a fabulous fireworks show! Thanks for supporting our school and our choir!

*IMPORTANT SCHOOL AND SAFETY REMINDERS!*
Lost and Found
Please remind your student(s) to check the Lost and Found these last few weeks of school. Any items not picked up by the last day of school, Thursday, May 26th, will be donated.
The Lost and Found rack will be out at all school events during the month of May for students and parents to check for lost items.
Please remember to label all items that your student brings to school so they can be returned if lost.
Thank you!
Safety and Processes
Safety and Processes:
1. Parents/guardians may enter the campus after signing in at the front office. Parents/guardians will not be allowed to enter the campus any other way.
- Note: Pre-K parents must park and sign students in and out of Room #5.
2. As we had in place last year, students will go directly to their classroom and not the playground. Students can be dropped off no earlier than 7:45 am. Students will enter at the designated entry points below for each grade and proceed directly to the classroom.
- K, 4th, 5th and 6th grades: Drop off in the back (North) parking lot
- 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades: Drop off in the from (South) parking lot
*Parent vehicle drop off: Parents remain in the car.
*Walkers: Each grade enter through the front gate, the back gate near the kindergarten playground or the adjacent park gate.
*Bus drop off: Enter through the bus drop off gate.
When asked in a survey, the vast majority of teachers and parents wanted to continue with this process. Please know our students will still have plenty of recess and outdoor time. In addition, with the enrollment increase at Liberty, having ALL students go to the playground in the morning creates a very stressful start to the day. We have over 100 kindergarten students and our kindergarten playground cannot safely accommodate those numbers. Even if they were all able to be on the kindergarten playground, that would still leave approximately 600, first through sixth grade, students on the larger playground.
We will also continue with a staggered release schedule.
- 2:30 Release: Kindergarten, 1st Grade
- 2:35 Release: 2nd and 4th Grade
- 2:40 Release: 3rd, 5th and 6th Grade
If families have multiple students, default to the youngest student's drop off/pickup point.
Lastly, please do not block crosswalks or handicap stalls or use cell phones while waiting in line or driving through the parking lots.
Thank you for support in keeping all students and staff safe!
General School Reminders
As a reminder:
- Drop Off in the morning is no earlier than 7:45 am. Although building doors may be unlocked, students are not allowed on campus until 7:45 am.
- The back gate closes at 8:05 am to allow teachers to report to their classrooms. If the back gate is closed you must drop your student off through the front gate and follow the drop off rules. Please don't have your student exit your car until they have reached a teacher at the front of the line.
- Please have your student dressed appropriately for the weather. If they wear a jacket or sweater to school, please be sure it is dress code approved (red, white or blue) and clearly labeled with the student's name. All water bottles should also be labeled.
- Face masks are optional but highly recommended on campus for all students, teachers and staff.
- Only students and staff are allowed on campus, with the exception of Pre K parents, for drop off and pick up. During school hours, parents may only enter campus through the front office.
- After school clubs: No parents/guardians are allowed on campus for after school clubs. Students will be directed to their club location by staff and parents/guardians should pick up at the appropriate time in the south parking lot (front of school near the flag). The club sponsor will stay with the students until they are picked up.
Thank you for your support!
