Learner Profile for March
The learner profile that is being highlighted during the month of March is the character trait of being a communicator. Students exhibiting this trait understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively. They work effectively and willingly in collaboration.
Language Workshop
We are continuing with Unit 4 in Language Workshop, a unit that focuses on investigation. The books that we have read are pictured below. Me...Jane and The Watcher are both about Jane Goodall and how she was an investigator even as a young child. The children enjoyed learning more about her life and how she followed her dream...a dream she had at 5 years old!
Literacy
We are just about one week away from the end of the 2nd trimester. At that time, kindergarten students should be able to read 25 of more of the high frequency words. We are impressed with how many kindergartners are able to do this. Thank you for your continued support and practice at home!
High Frequency Words
There are 40 high frequency words that kindergarten students in the School District of Waukesha are expected to be able to read by the end of the school year. To stay on track for mastery of all 40 words, it is recommended that students be able to read between 20 and 25 words at this time of year. Have you checked lately to see how is your child doing? Did he/she meet this goal?
To help you practice the words with your child at home we have included the document below. The highlighted words are those we have worked on at school. We will update the list as new words are introduced.
Math Workshop
Our biggest focus the past month or so has been on addition and subtraction. We have now learned how to use the appropriate symbols, write a correct math sentence to match a picture, solve simple word problems and draw pictures to help us solve problems. It's been really exciting to see how much more comfortable and fluent the children are becoming with their addition and subtraction skills. We will revisit addition and subtraction at the more abstract level before the end of the year.
IMPORTANT: If your child is not yet able to count to 100 by 1s independently and successfully, please be sure to practice often.
Just a reminder that Dreambox is available for use at home. If you need help accessing this resource, please contact your child's teacher. This is a great way to continue to develop math skills. It's great to see that many of you have already been accessing this resource!

Rose Glen online directory
Another important reason you may want to be included in the directory is to give your child the opportunity to be invited to birthday parties or other gatherings with classmates, since neither the teachers nor the office staff is able to share contact information with you. Hopefully you have already signed up for the family directory. If you have not, please take a few minutes to do so.
