Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
40th Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance
I extend a huge thank you to our event organisers, Crystal Iredale, Wendy Scanlan, Sarah Belliveau and Lisa Briscoe for the fabulous celebration of community at the Joondalup Resort last Friday evening. Their planning, vision, day to day coordinating and attention to every detail made for a truly magical night. Thank you also to everyone who came along to join in the fun and celebrations with us. Could be a hard act to follow for our 50th!

New Federal Government Funding Packaging for Non-Government Schools
In September, the Federal Government released its new funding arrangements for non-government schools after weeks of discussions with representatives of the national Catholic Education sector. The new package of measures will significantly improve the funding situation for our Catholic Education system. It will provide certainty that our schools and colleges will continue to thrive and be a viable, accessible and affordable education option for Western Australian families.
These new funding arrangements will also provide certainty for our valued and committed staff who deliver the high standard of education experienced in our school.
As we are committed to supporting all families of varying financial means, we believe this new funding package will provide a much firmer foundation for this. The new funding arrangements announced are complex but can be summarised in three parts:
1. Interim funding arrangements for 2018 have been extended to 2019. The Federal Government will provide an additional $135.1 million Australia-wide to continue 2018 funding into 2019.
2. A new measure of parents’ capacity to contribute will be introduced in 2020, based on personal income tax (PIT) data rather than area-based Socio-Economic Status data. It is estimated that this will improve funding to Catholic schools Australia-wide at an average of 3.9% per student per annum between 2020 and 2029.
3. The introduction of a new fund worth $718m Australia-wide over 10 years to address the adverse effect of the Capacity to Contribute discount curve on Catholic schools.
I will keep you informed as the new funding arrangements are progressed by Catholic Education Western Australia.
2018 Student Residential Address and Other Information Collection Notice
The link below from the Australian Government Department of Education and Training explains the requirement of the school to supply student and parent addresses. This information is used to help ensure Commonwealth funding arrangements for non-government schools are based on need, and are fair and transparent.
If you have changed your address during the year, it is important that you advise the school of your new details via email at admin@wcps.wa.edu.au. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Wheelchair for Kids
It was a pleasure approving the donation of $1000.00 from our school to the ‘Wheelchair for Kids’ Foundation. Congratulations to Eoghan Barrowclough in Year 5 for doing a fabulous job in promoting this charity and organising the raffle and cake stall, and to all families and students who supported Eoghan.
Kindest regards
Tamara McGougan

The Big, Big Book Fair
Only 6 more sleeps until the Big Big Book Fair. Our book fair will begin on Tuesday 23rd October (Week 3) and run until Thursday 25th October. (Only 3 sale days) We accept cash, cheque, eftpos and credit card.
Remember $1500 of our commission is used to subsidise the Book Week play in 2019 and the rest is used to purchase books for our library. We have secured a $60 book prize from Scholastic. Every item purchased at the book fair gives you a ticket in the raffle to win the $60 worth of books. Buy one book get one ticket. Buy 5 books get 5 tickets in the raffle.
The Big Big Book Fair Wish Lists
As with previous years the children will be given the opportunity to browse through the fair and write down the books that they might like to purchase. We call it a wish list because it is just that, a list of wishes. You as parents are under no obligation to purchase those books but if you’re looking for ideas for the “X word” then it is very handy. The children will have brought home a brochure that highlights some of the books available but a browse through the fair is best.
Feel Great When You Donate
Please feel free to donate a book from the Book Fair and have your family immortalised with a dedication in the front of the book. Perfect for Year 6s. That way I can never forget you!
Volunteers be Praised!
Thank you so much to all “retail stars” who have volunteered to help to sell the books over the three days. I am thrilled with the response. The roster is below. Try to arrive 5 minutes early for a briefing.
The Big, Big Morning Tea
Mums, Dads, Nannas, Pops Aunties, Uncles and especially all the Pre Kindy parents you are all invited to attend our book fair morning tea on Wednesday 24th October starting at 8.30am. You will be free to browse at your leisure, with cuppa in hand, without the pleas of your offspring. (Note: bickies will not come out until just after the 8.45 am bell for reasons that will be obvious.)
Pre-Kindy Invite
Pre-Kindy parents and carers are more than welcome to come into the book fair and browse without pressure before they leave the school in the morning or before they pick up the littlies in the afternoon. If you like pressure, then bring the kids!
See you in the Library.
St Jerome, pray for us.
