Geography
Japan is located in the Pacific Ocean. It consists of four main islands including Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku. Japan is largely mountainous and most of their cities are located on the coast. Earthquakes are fairly common in Japan and they hit Japan every few years. In Japan they experience all four seasons, but in the winter it is usually very cold. The western part is usually colder than the eastern.

Most Japanese people practice the religion of Buddhism and Shinto. Many people continue to integrate aspects of Shinto and Buddhism in their households. Japanese people use chopsticks to eat most meals. They usually eat foods such as rice, noodles, dumplings, and egg rolls. They usually eat dinner in the evening, and they sit with the father while he eats. Japanese people celebrate the holiday of New Year's, which is when people take off several days of work and visit family and relatives. Children receive money from their parents or grandparents on this holiday. On New Year's they usually eat special foods like mochi which is pounded sticky rice.
