“Fill the Box” Campaign
Veterans Day gives Americans an opportunity to honor the men and women in the military who have sacrificed their own needs to serve our country. Without their sacrifices, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms that we have today. The 7th grade teams plan to show their support to the men and women who have sacrificed so much. The “Fill the Box” campaign will begin on November 14 and run through November 22. Students will fill boxes with donated items selected for their team. They will also create thank you notes/holiday cards that will be sent to veterans in northeast Ohio. Please consider donating to help the 7th grade Teams fill their boxes. All donations will be sent to the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
Items to be collected by each 7th grade team:
Discoverers: Newly purchased magazines or other reading material
Globetrotters: Packages of store bought cookies
Pioneers: Women’s socks or Non-skid Slipper socks
Seekers: Men’s socks or Non-skid Slipper socks
Your donations and support of our teams and veterans is greatly appreciated!
Guidance Lessons
Throughout this past month, Mrs. Ray taught a guidance lesson to 7th grade students about bullying and how to respond to it. Students were taught to recognize bullying (whether it is happening to the themselves or to someone else) empathize with people who are bullied, identify strategies to deal with bullying and help others who are bullied, and understand how bystanders can be part of the problem or part of the solution to bullying. Throughout the school year, students will also take a closer look at sexual harassment and cyber bullying. The focus of these lessons is on what students can do about bullying so they can be safe and happy at school. We would like to work with you to make this happen.
Ask your 7th grader to talk to you about the Bystander Power suggestions discussed in the lesson (don't take part in bullying, offer support, and take action against bullying). Talk to your child about your experiences with bullying, either what you remember from your youth or what you have experienced in the workplace. Ask your student about what kinds of bullying he or she sees happening at school. Together we can help our youth stay safe and develop confidence and empathy during the middle school years.
Ski Club
Despite the beautiful weather that we’ve been having around here, we know that winter is just around the corner! Strongsville Middle School’s Ski and Snowboard Club is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. This is a great opportunity for those wanting to learn to ski/snowboard as well as those who are experts on the slopes. See the Ski and Snowboard webpage for details and forms.
