Welcome Back!
Welcome back Alward Students and Families as we enter into the second half of the 21-22 school year! I always find it so hard to believe that we are almost halfway to the end of the year when we return from the winter holiday break! This year seems to be flying by!!
This year, I am so grateful to have spent everyday in person with our students and watch them learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our PK and KDG students have nailed down their routines and procedures so well, that I think some of them could sub when their teachers are out sick. I love hearing from our first and second graders about the books that they are reading as they are growing leaps and bounds in this area, which is so neat to see! Their brains are like sponges! Finally, I always love seeing how much our upper grade students change from January to the end of the year. They really mature, become more independent, and truly start to advocate for themselves in regards to their learning and social situations.
I also want to send a huge thank you to all of our Alward families for your support, understanding, and encouragement as we continue to navigate various protocols that are out of our control and being flexible with ever changing guidelines. Even though we still have some lingering challenges from COVID, it has been so nice to see our students and staff really embracing this school year and working so hard to reach new goals!
As we dive into this half of the school year, our staff and PTC are planning various family events. This month, we are excited to kick off One School, One Book, have a family movie night and our bi-monthly PTC meeting, and welcome new and returning parents at our PK/KDG Round-up Informational Meeting! Please make sure to check out the calendar of events listed below for dates and times, and if volunteers are needed.
Once again, we thank you for your continued support and wish everyone a wonderful 2022!
In partnership,
Melanie
One School, One Book
The reading team is proud to announce our 2022 One School One Book!
This year we will be reading Fenway and Hattie written by Victoria J. Coe. Every Alward family will receive a copy of this book. Students will bring the book home on Friday, January 7th. A reading schedule/bookmark is included with the book. We will have daily trivia in the morning that matches the reading schedule. Our goal is to build a community of readers. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, and staff – will all be following along together.
Victoria J. Coe sent a special message to Alward. To meet the author and find out a little more about the author and Fenway and Hattie please click the link below.
