Hallinan Elementary

Hawk Squawk 12/3/20

Principal's Message

Dear Hallinan Families,

I hope you had a restful and wonderful Thanksgiving! And, almost before we can finish the pumpkin pie, it's December!

This week, I learned how to play spoons, went on a scavenger hunt, worked on my soccer dribble and discovered interesting facts about animal features, habitats and adaptations. Yep, I spent some time in Music, PE and STEM classes and had a great time. Tomorrow, I'm excited to visit SEL lessons and learn about our theme for the month, Honesty. I know I've said it before, but my favorite part of the day is visiting classes and seeing your children engaged and learning.

In case you haven't heard, one of our traditions at Hallinan is hosting Snowflake, our Elf on the Shelf, each December. She's back and she's been busy! She entered through a canopy pillar, checked the hand sanitizer dispensers and measured our 6 foot distance signage for accuracy. Snowflake misses our students and staff and has been on her best behavior assisting in getting Hallinan ready so everyone can come back.

There is no place like Hallinan - it is always a magical place. During this holiday season I hope your family is well and happy. If you or a loved one needs support, please reach out to me or Brittany Espamer as our PTO and District have numerous resources to assist our community.

All the best,

Melissa Griffiths

Hallinan Gives Back!

Last year, our Hallinan community came together to provide coats and shoes for 72 children at our buddy school, Alder Elementary in Gresham. We invite you to participate this year in our December Gift Card Drive. Our gift cards will go to purchase coats, shoes and toys for our friends at Alder Elementary whose community is really suffering. There are THREE ways to give:

  1. Donate using the Hallinan PTO Venmo account: @Hallinan-Treasurer. Simply specify “Alder Elementary” and the PTO will purchase a gift card on your behalf.

  2. Donate through the directory by going hallinanpto.membershiptoolkit.com and donate using the tab “Alder Elementary Donations”.

  3. Purchase your own gift card and drop off to the school office or into our Alder Drop Box during school hours.

Unable to donate? No problem. We welcome handmade cards from our Hallinan kids with messages of love to our Alder friends. Cards can be left in the same place as gift cards.

Big picture

I'm in the new Innovation Lab in front of the glass garage door that opens to the garden. Those are new planter boxes stacked outside behind me. This is going to be an amazing place which I know will spark a lot of creativity and learning!

Please remember that Hallinan is a closed campus and only staff and construction crew are allowed onsite - inside and outside. We appreciate your cooperation.
