AdvancED Accreditation Team Applauds Coweta! Elm Street visit a success!
The external review team from AdvancED that visited Elm Street Elementary and Coweta County School System last week gave rave reviews!
With some of the highest ratings earned across international visits in a couple of key areas and strong performance all across the board, Coweta County School System has much to be proud of! We recognize that our partnership with parents, community businesses, and our hard work with students are all integral to our success. Special thanks to the parents and community members who took part in interviews during the process; we appreciate your support as always! Thank you to the ten member self-assessment team leaders for helping to lead our school prep work, and thank you to our twelve teachers who took part in the interview process. Special thanks for our stellar teachers and students for letting our visiting team member see a snapshot of the outstanding work that happens in our school each and every day! We are also grateful for the leadership of our School Board and Central Office Staff for strong leadership, vision, and support. Finally, thank you, each and every Elm Street stakeholder, for the role you play each day in our important work.
I hope you will take a little time to check out the press release along with the video report of the team. Both links are below. There is also a one-page summary of the visit that was shared at this week's school board meeting.

One last shout out to each of our 484 Elm Street students and 67 staff members for allowing Elm Street to shine as one of the visited schools! At Elm Street, our guest conducted walkthrough visits of 13 classrooms, formally interviewed 12 teacher leaders, interacted with several students and other staff while walking our hallways, and enjoyed lunch dialogue with 2 teachers and 2 students. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we are proud to have been part of the process - it was another wonderfully successful team effort!

Today, we celebrate our accomplishment and also raise awareness of how our own hearts function in our bodies.
Enjoyed hearing Coach Baker help our students learn to jump rope for the first time or become more skilled with a jump rope. He shared a really cool video of a competitive jump rope team this week in PE to get everyone inspired!

Expo Day was a Huge Hit!
At least 219 parents and other guests dropped in during the day to check out the work of our students and staff. It was delightful to see students telling their parents, grandparents, and even school board member, Beth Barnett, all about what they are learning! We have some great photos from the day, but they barely begin to tell the story of all that was shared... Can't wait to do it again next year! Thank you to everyone who took time to visit. We enjoyed sharing our learning with you!
Reminder: You're not too young for the Science Fair!
Each year, all fifth graders and fourth grade REACH students participate in our school-wide Science Fair, held annually in late spring. This year's fair is on the calendar for Thursday, May 5.
Think you're too young for the fair? Think again!
This year Elm Street is opening up the Science Fair to any and all interested young scientists!
A Science Fair is an opportunity to further investigate a topic of interest. It is a chance to conduct an experiment to try to answer a scientific question that someone is wondering about, using the scientific method, of course. Student participants are able to present their findings on a board for others to learn from. Fourth and fifth grade participants share their findings in a presentation to their classmates in the days and weeks before the fair, and then their projects are evaluated by county officials. Top placing projects in grades four and five shall move on to the Coweta County Schools Science Fair.
While all fifth grade students and fourth grade reach students are required to take part each year, this year's fair is open to even our youngest learners to help provide advanced learning opportunities to all students!
We would love to invite any and all young scientists to join in the fun!
Please e-mail amber.sambdman@cowetaschools.net or nina.wimbley@cowetaschools.net for more information for your young scientist.
