4th Grade Enrichment Projects

Parker Slaugenhaupt and Jack McCallig presented their learning about animation to their peers, teachers and parents on Thursday afternoon.

We were all so impressed with what they learned and with the animated movie that they created! Students then had a chance to make their own flip book. Perhaps some students are now trying to make their own animated movies at home!

Thank you to Mrs. Gaskill for all of her support and guidance.

Opinion Writing

Below are some examples of 1st Grade Opinion Writing. This genre of writing is taught in all grade levels. We use rubrics adopted from the Delaware Department of Education to score student work and chart growth. Common Core aligned writing requires that students reference resources. Typically, resources are text that they have read or had read aloud to them in our younger grades. In these examples, students were referencing the text, What if you had animal teeth?

Personal Items Drive Ends Monday

In recognition of reaching our 100th day of school, now on Monday, Feb. 8th, we have collected numerous personal care items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving cream, shampoo etc. to donate to RICAN. Students in Mrs. Allen's class are helping to chart all contributions. We appreciate anything that you can contribute to help members of our community. Our last day for donations will be Monday.

Mrs. Hershman discussed this drive with her class today. Lexi, one of her Kindergartners, simply explained to the class, "Some people don't have a job or have a job that doesn't make enough money so they can buy stuff to keep them clean. We should help so they can stay clean and not get sick". So well explained by one of our youngest students!!!

Yearbook photos needed

If you have have taken photos this year while attending a school or PTO sponsored event, please consider sending them to this designated email address. We are also in need of photos of current 4th graders since they started here in Kindergarten.

Thank you to Erin Manni for donating her time and energy to create our school yearbook.

Birthday Party Invitations

Teachers can not pass out birthday invitations in their classrooms unless all students are to be included. This helps to avoid tears at school. If you need addresses, we advise parents to consider participating in the PTO voluntary student directory.

Sharing food/candy at school

As a reminder, we do not allow students to share or distribute food or candy to peers at school. Please keep this in mind as we approach birthdays and holidays. If you would like to send in something to share with peers in your child's class, please consider items such as stickers and pencils. You could also consider sending in something for the entire class to use such as a book, fun class materials or game.

Our school is LATEX and MINT FREE due to allergies!

Please do not bring the following items into our school due to serious allergies:
