Short Term Quarantine Independent Study Contract

In the September 22, 2021 Community Update, the district informed you that new state guidelines require that we have parent/guardian approval for their child to continue their education and earn attendance credit when their child is out of school for quarantine, via a signed Independent Studies Agreement.

Currently, students on quarantine are marked absent, but once parents/guardians approve for their student to participate in independent study during quarantine, the student will begin to generate positive attendance as they complete and submit their assignments on Canvas to help them keep up academically with their classmates. To facilitate this process, we are asking that you approve one Independent Studies Agreement for the full school year that will serve for any short-term period that your child may need to be out of school on required quarantine.

Upon approval, you will receive an automated reply with a full copy of the contract and the guidelines that we will follow to provide ongoing learning and support and attendance credit.

Please contact your child’s school if you need support or access to a computer to complete this process. Complete the form by clicking this link. You will need your student's nine digit ID number.

PARENTS! Please Complete Income Verification Form

All school districts in California are required to submit an annual notification of students who need additional support. This year, more than ever before, we want to make sure that all families are able to provide information so that we may continue to expand support for students during this challenging time. The income verification form is strictly confidential and will only be used to submit the annual application for school funding. While it is not our intent to ask personal income questions, our district wide funding depends largely on parents responding to this request. In fact, over 35,000 meals distributed over the past four months and the 14,000 computer devices distributed were the result of this funding from the state and federal level. What’s more, our district qualified for more than a million dollars in additional funding thanks to parents assisting us to complete this form.

In the recent months, many people have lost their jobs or dramatically reduced their work hours, and that has resulted in a dramatic reduction in their annual income. Our school district is ready and prepared to support students from these families in a variety of ways, including breakfast and lunch, counseling, family engagement support, technology and internet access, nursing support, and many, many other areas. Please assist us by providing this valuable information so that we may maximize the state and federal funding for students.

"Test-And-Stay": Keeping More Students In School!

Now that we have testing available on campus, students who are identified as close contacts (meaning students who have no symptoms but are identified as being within 6 feet of a Covid-positive person for 15 minutes or more) no longer automatically have to quarantine. Instead, the San Diego County Department of Public Health is allowing us to keep students in school if parents/guardians consent to having them rapid-tested here by Inspire Diagnostics twice in a week. If you receive a phone call informing you that your student was a close contact, here are your options: Vaccinated students don't have to quarantine unless they have symptoms. Families of unvaccinated students will have the option to keep them in school and have them tested, or take them home to quarantine. (Extracurricular activities will be limited during the test-and-stay period) We hope this will minimize interruptions to your student's in-person education while keeping safety at the forefront.

New Options for Testing on Campus!

Inspire Diagnostics is now offering free Covid testing on campus for students and staff! Testing is available 5 days a week with parent/guardian permission.

Current Covid Policy

With the Covid situation things are constantly changing! We hope to help our families understand the current protocols for Covid Symptoms and Exposures!

If your child has Covid Symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, they must:

-Stay home for 10 days OR

-Return before 10 days with a Negative Covid test submitted to the school AND

*No Fever for 24 hours

*No Symptoms

Nurse must clear your Covid Test and notify you before you can return.

If your child was in Close Contact they must:

If your child was in contact with a Covid Positive Person and they are fully vaccinated they DO NOT have to quarantine!

If your unvaccinated child was in contact with a Covid Positive Person AT SCHOOL they can:

-Stay home for 10 days and return on day 11

-Stay home and test on or after day 5 from exposure and return on day 8

-Remain in school ONLY if they Covid test within 24 hours and also on day 5,6 or 7

Questions? Please contact Assistant Principal Megan Ratliff at 760-726-5611 or check out the latest Covid Decision Tree.

Positive Cases This Week

This is a courtesy notice to inform you that there were positive cases of Covid-19 at VHS this week. These individuals have been isolated and their close contacts have been quarantined. If you were not notified, your student was not identified as a close contact and there is nothing you need to do. To protect privacy, we do not release names or other personal information. This notice is only a courtesy. Free testing and vaccinations are available - please see the Vista Unified Health and Safety Page. You can check the current Vista High School case count at the VUSD Covid Dashboard.

School Accountability Reports (SARC)

State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators. A hard copy will be made available upon request at the school site.

The SARC contains all of the following:

  • Demographic data
  • School safety and climate for learning information
  • Academic data
  • School completion rates
  • Class sizes
  • Teacher and staff information
  • Curriculum and instruction descriptions
  • Postsecondary preparation information
  • Fiscal and expenditure data

Family & Community Engagement ♡

The Importance of Community Engagement

The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez

Community Forum Follow-up

Through our conversations and the information we receive we can provide these directly to VHS Action Groups and help facilitate future action.

Here are some of the topics were discussed at the forum:

  • Campus Security
  • COVID Health
  • Mental Health
