The Sorcerer of the North
By: Staush Przyuski
In the book The Sorcerer of the North the author, John Flanagan continues the series, but this time Will is not an apprentice any more. The book has a twist to it and Will protects his own fief and stops problems in his fief when they occur. Although Will has his own fief it doesn’t mean he is done doing missions. In this book Will has to go to a village and the castle the village is outside of and gather information about the person known as the Malkallam, who is supposed to be the sorcerer. In this action packed adventure Will has to overcome obstacles, like one person he would not expect to even be in or near the land of Araluen, and stay in disguise, for people cannot know he is a ranger. This book starts with a twist and ends with a twist, and you will change your thinking about what is going to happen in the next book. Like many other books in this series it ends with a cliff hanger that makes people want to read the next book. This is a series for people that like action adventure and fantasy books, and people that don’t mind books that end in cliff hangers. In conclusion people who like the series will definitely want this book.
The Monstrumologist
By: Matt Tompson
The Monstrumologist starts with a sense of action, throughout the story, but it also has lots of gore for the readers. For only the beginning of the series Will Henry, [apprentice of Pellinore Warthrop] has a lot ahead of him throughout his life with Dr. Warthrop. But they already have a lot on their plate with Anthropophagi, running in the streets of New England, from the courtesy of a grave robber. As the action of the story moves from a cemetery to the asylum in the underground catacombs, the author leaves some very frequent shocks, described by using blood, gore, pus, and maggots. Throughout the story there are some interesting clues where the next location of the Anthropagi may be. But Dr. Warthrop has an interesting method of slaughter, using loathsome monsters hunters hired by no one but himself to rid New England of the Anthropagi. The ending may seem like a cliff-hanger, but it leaves clues where the Anthropagi may originate next. But the relation between Will Henry and Dr. Warthrop will always leave the reader wanting more.
