Betsy DeVos Confirmed by Senate Committee

Members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted on Tuesday to move forward the nomination of Betsy DeVos, to be the next U.S. Secretary of Education, to the Senate floor for consideration. The HELP Committee voted to approve DeVos' nomination on a party-line vote of 12-11. The full Senate will vote on DeVos' nomination in the coming weeks.

National PTA has strong concerns regarding DeVos' nomination. In response, we have issued several statements and sent letters to members of congress in support of public education, reiterating our longstanding opposition to private school vouchers.

Read the letters to policymakers that National PTA signed on regarding the nomination of DeVos.

National PTA recently released two new advocacy resources for PTA members. This year's edition of the Public Policy Agenda has been revamped, with a new layout and special focus on local PTA advocacy efforts and how every PTA advocate can affect public policy. The Public Policy Agenda is titled, " PTA Advocacy Changes Lives: Your Guide to Impacting Public Policy."

The second publication is the National PTA Legislative Checklist, which reflects National PTA's legislative requests for the 115th Congress. It will be given as a resource to members of Congress and their staff during meetings on Capitol Hill.

Want to learn more about these two documents?

Check out the Facebook Live featuring Shannon Sevier, vice president of advocacy for National PTA and Jacki Ball, director of government affairs for National PTA discussing the two new resources onNational PTA's Facebook Page.
