EMBRACING THE DIP
As we continue to work toward excellence in our day-to-day, I'll use this space to share feedback from our staff as well as next steps in our improvement work and change efforts. At our last staff meeting, we discussed the Kubler-Ross Change Model and what it means for our work as we embrace the changes we must make. You might appreciate this emoji version. :)
This week I'd like to share some of the answers from the Q1 staff survey for the question: Share your greatest moment of joy from your classroom so far this year.
- Learning about students as I work one-on-one with them to write has helped me to form relationships.
- the little interactions of getting a lot of laughs from the kids but still staying on task.
- Seeing the growth of student understanding and following of academic and behavioral routines
- Students making connections between my class and other classes.
- Students working in teams to solve problems.
- Student engagement in their learning...being more ready and focused on learning.
Thank you to everyone who helped to make our Trick or Treat Street a smashing success!!! We had over 150 in attendance!
It goes a little something like this:
- Every pair consists of a “Student A” and a “Student B.”
- Each student has their own set of problems or exercises to work on. Here’s the twist: Student A has the answers to Student B’s problems, and Student B has the answers to Student A’s problems.
- Students take turns coaching each other through the problems, not giving the answers, but helping their partner reach the correct answer on their own.
This arrangement, if done right, will help students become more self-directed, increase academic gains, and improve the quality of social interactions.
Here’s a quick demonstration:
Hot Topics...
If a student is in need of seeing a counselor...please remember to send a chat to Mrs. Wood or Mrs. Lauer and wait for their response before sending a student with a pass. Students with IEPs see Mrs. Lauer and all others see Mrs. Wood.
Grading...if late, please remember to enter student work as missing in the gradebook until you receive it. Especially when students are absent/excused, it is important that they know how the missing work impacts their grade.
Math Lunch Lab... Math teachers are inviting students who need specific skill support to a lunch lab (taught by interventionist Ms. Vasquez). 7th grade students will get help on Tuesdays, 8th grade on Wednesdays and Algebra students on Thursdays. Students will receive an invitation pass and are encouraged to participate (snacks provided:-)
NEXT WEEK IS THE LAST WEEK TO DONATE Thanksgiving FOOD ITEMS FOR ENGLEWOOD FAMILIES IN NEED. If you are able, please pick up a few extra dry food items to include in our donation box in the staff mailroom. See details below if you would like to help assemble or deliver baskets.
Purchase your tickets for our EMS/ELA staff Avalanche night, Friday 1/10 @ 7pm. (Link coming soon)
New IT resources are available for Englewood educators....
