Director's Message
Hello William D. Ford Career-Technical Center Students, Families, and Staff,
Have you heard about the Blue Devil Promise Scholarship? Lawrence Technological University (LTU) provides 50 scholarships that cover 50% of tuition costs to students that attend Wayne-Westland Community Schools. Students that attend FordCTC are eligible, regardless of where you attend high school.
LTU offers post-secondary options in a variety of fields that directly correspond to the career technical education programs offered at FordCTC. Architecture, broadcasting, communications, film, computer programming, cyber security, digital design, engineering, game design, and nursing are just some of the majors that they offer.
LTU is hosting campus tours on Saturday, December 10. If you are interested in registering to attend this event or learning more about this scholarship opportunity, please complete this form.
Have a wonderful week.
With students in mind,
JaCinda Sumara

Program Spotlight -- Future Teachers
Future Teachers, formerly known as Teacher Cadet, has had a focused and busy fall. Students are creating and implementing wonderful lesson plans to teach their students at Sunshine & Rainbows Preschool. Students have started completing job shadows with local K-12 teachers. These job shadow experiences allow the students to explore different grade levels they may be interested in teaching.
Future Teachers has developed a partnership with Stevenson Middle School. Middle school students in the Aspiring Educators club are visiting monthly to see Future Teachers in action. Our high school students will directly mentor these middle school students throughout the school year.
Recently, Future Teachers chaperoned their first field trip. On November 18, they supported Sunshine & Rainbows Preschoolers on a visit to the Cranbrook Institute of Science. While our preschoolers learned about the stars and dinosaurs, our future teachers learned a lot about student supervision outside the classroom.
On November 22, Future Teachers visited the Zekelman Holocaust Center. Students were given a tour of the museum while the museum educator explained why and how decisions are made to best educate guests. Students learned from a second generation survivor, Sarah Silver, who spoke of her parents', Phillis and Arnold Eirhorn, experiences at the camps and their lives after. Finally, the day concluded with a working lunch in which our students discussed how to best teach the Holocaust and themes of diversity, equity, and inclusion to middle and high school students. This field trip was sponsored by a grant from the Mark Schonwetter Holocaust Education Foundation.
Student and Staff Success
Congratulations to our recent students of the week.
