Cowpoke Chronicles
October 2022 - Volume 2
Welcome from Mrs. Sweeney!
Hi Cowpokes!
We had such a great Friday this last week with our first spirit assembly of the school year! We were able to listen to a great performance from the Cowpoke Chorale, play games as a school, and cheer on friends as they received special awards. I truly love getting to see our school spirit come alive!
We have lots of fun events planned for the next few weeks! I hope your Cowpoke and family can come and take part in the fun! Trunk-or-Treat and Pinky Palooza are great ways to get involved with your school community and meet someone new!
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

“Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.™”
Please join the Pinkerton campaign to promote healthy and drug free lives.
The week of October 24-28, Pinkerton will join schools across the nation to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated every October and the mission is to bring awareness to the dangers of drugs and to encourage participation in drug prevention activities in an age appropriate way. The theme this year is “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free™”. For more information about the Red Ribbon Campaign, please visit this link: https://www.redribbon.org/
The Red Ribbon campaign began in 1985 after the murder of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, a young man who was working as a Drug Enforcement Agent, involved in stopping the flow of illegal drugs into our country. Upon hearing of his death, friends and neighbors began to wear red satin badges to honor his memory and courage in the fight against illegal drugs. Kiki believed that one person can make a difference in the fight to keep our communities drug free.
Although we set aside this week to celebrate the Red Ribbon Campaign and what it stands for, being principled in all we do, making healthy choices and staying safe are ongoing themes at Pinkerton. It is our goal to help our learners recognize and appreciate their unique talents and gifts and to help them develop the skills that will enable them to fulfill their dreams and reach their full potential.
I would like to say thank you to Ms. Michaelis for her collaboration on our Red Ribbon Week activities. After the accidental overdose death of her son Tommy, she has made it her mission to educate and bring awareness to our community so that instead of just saying “No!” to drugs we can say “I KNOW” the dangers of drugs. “I KNOW” how to handle conflict and “I KNOW” that the right choice is not always the easiest choice. She and Team Tommy are proud to partner with Shatterproof, a national organization that is doing the same.
Please let me know if I can help you in any way. My email is kkirkley@coppellisd.com.
Happy Fall!
Kathy

Notes from the Nurse
Dear Parents,
St. Ann’s Catholic Parish is once again sponsoring Thanksgiving basket deliveries and now offers a pickup option. This program provides families in need with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. The baskets will be delivered to your home the weekend before Thanksgiving so it is critically important that an adult representing the family be at the home between the hours of 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Sunday November 20, 2022. The deadline to sign up for a basket is October 21, 2022.
