Team Bullard
Here's what's happening in the huddle...
Reading
Last week we read Follow a River by Jane Manners. We focused on the following skills:
- using a description wheel to record topics and subtopics
- using a glossary to define terms
- text features for non-fiction passages
Writing
We read Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems and used it as a mentor text to develop stories about things that make us mad or sad. This week we used a graphic organizer to plan our ideas and then we added detail by using a 4-square. Next week we will use our personal dictionaries to edit for spelling.
GUIDED READING
Our last guided reading group recorded their Reader's Theater script. Please enjoy The Golden Fish: A Russian Folktalke!

Math
We concluded unit 7 learning about:
- 3-dimensional shapes including the sphere, cone, pyramid, cube, rectangular prism, and cylinder
- lines of symmetry
- identifying the tens and ones places
Science
We expanded our understanding of living things to include plants. A big project this week was our Parts of a Plant book. First graders learned about roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and seeds. Ask your first grader to share it with you!
Hat Day
This Friday will be a Hat Day. Students may pay $1.00 toward the Holly Berry Huynh Memorial Fund. Holly was a Groveland student who tragically lost her life over Thanksgiving break in a car accident.
