..... The first class novel we'll be reading is The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. This book is filled with loads of figurative language and twists and turns galore. Be prepared to expect the unexpected!

..... We will begin our first science simulation next week. Phases of the Moon: A Squared Away Unit will allow students to explore what causes the moon to change its appearance over the course of a month.

..... In math the class will finish up its study of graphs after Labor Day. A final assessment over all of the topics discussed is anticipated on or about September 14th.

..... Welcome, Miss Gayle! Lost Creek's new writing teacher Gayle Arnold will visit our classroom every Monday morning from 11:30-12:15. I'm excited that the students will have the opportunity to enjoy her focused lesson each week.

….. We have a new full-time counselor, Mrs. Ashley Weir. Every other Tuesday our class will meet with her from 10:15-10:55 for the Second Steps counseling program. Our first meeting with Mrs. Weir found us playing a name game to get to know one another better. Be sure to ask your child what noun he/she chose for the game… my goal is to remember all of the names & nouns for the rest of the year… clearly a "senior moment" challenge that I'm determined to master!

Battle of the Books

Wow, I'm impressed with how many 2015-2016 YHBA books students have already read this year. As the 2015 VCSC Battle of the Books GT Champions, our class has a title to defend in April. Thanks for continuing to encourage your child to read, read, read his/her fifteen novels by January 4th. Readers are leaders... and champions!
