Social-Emotional Health Screenings For 10th and 12th Grade Begins 10/5/2020

In order to address the social and emotional well-being of students amid the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Cape Cod Tech plans to screen 10th and 12th grade students beginning the week of October 5, 2020. We will be utilizing the UCLA Covid-19 Screen for Child/Adolescent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The information gathered in this screening will be used solely for the purposes of connecting students with necessary resources such as counseling and other outside agencies providing support.

It is important for parents to know that this screening does not formally diagnose PTSD. The results will only be used to connect students with resources, which are all voluntary. Results will only be viewed by the School Counseling Department. Interviews will be conducted confidentially on an individual basis. A copy of the screening that will be used is included in this email.

If you do not want your student to participate in this screening, please click here to complete the opt-out form.

If you have any questions or concerns about the screening, please contact Erica Tasha, School Social Worker etasha@capetech.us 508-432-4500 ext. 2408 or Averill Davis, Lead School Counselor adavis@capetech.us 508-432-4500 ext. 2403.

Thank you for helping us support your student’s social-emotional health!

Good evening everyone,

Well, we are about to enter our second week of school. However, it is also our first week with 9th and 11th graders in the building and 10th and 12th engaging in academic classes. So I guess its our first week but the second time around!

I hope everyone is well. Last week went very well in school. The students did their job in staying socially distant and following our protocols. I know the 9th and 11th graders will again make us proud.

There are a few key reminders for students listed below. Each grade level should review the information and be prepared for tomorrow and the week ahead.

Also, a reminder for all parents and guardians, if your student has pending Coronavirus test results, they need to STAY HOME! This is not an option. Again, if your child has been administered a coronavirus test and you are awaiting the results, your child may not attend school until the results return negative. If the result is positive for Coronavirus, please contact Ms. Gretchen Wahtola our school nurse at 508-432-4500.

3 days down and things have gone great. I have shared a few items below, including our information about the social-emotional screening that will begin next week.

I need to share with all that students have done a very good job in social distancing, abiding by mask rules, and just being good kids. I know it is only day 3, and the true test will be on day 33.

As we move forward please continue to utilize the Student Daily Wellness Checklist.

September 20th Update Below

School Starts Tomorrow

Good evening everyone,

We are in full (hybrid) session come tomorrow Monday, September 21st. Our tenth and twelfth graders will be coming to school for shop, while our ninth and eleventh graders will log in to their virtual classrooms. There were some changes, so students need to check their student emails for schedule changes.

We will be holding off on the Mentor Teacher Periods for the 1st three days. I explain why later in the newsletter, but I want students to use the time on Monday morning to check their student emails and verify their schedules. If you are confused, please contact your school counselors. (I do not suggest reaching out to me, as I am rarely by my computer during the day. You may not get your answer until 9 pm that night.)

School Counselor Emails:

We will see you in person or virtually tomorrow moring. Everyone, get to bed early, so you are ready to learn ion the morning.

Thanks

Mr. Terranova

What's this Mentor Teacher period?

Every academic day during Phase A there are two blocks/periods at either end of the day called Mentor Teacher. They are not on your schedule. They are a support period to ensure your success. Academic and Special Education teachers have been assigned students and will support these students during the 2020-2021 school year. These teachers will reach out to you this week and set a time during either the am or pm time period that they will have you log into a virtual class. It is a chance to get support for classes, ask general questions and just check in about what is going on this year. These teachers will be checking your grades and speaking privately to you about completed/incomplete work.

For Monday 9/21, Tuesday 9/22 and Wednesday 9/23 these classes will not meet. I would like students to take this time in the first 3 days to be sure they are ready for their day. Your teachers will reach out to you in the first 3 days to let you know when you need to check in on those periods. If things are going well, the check-in may just be an email during the week. If things are not going well your Mentor Teacher may ask you to join a virtual class daily.

If you have any questions, please email your School Counselor.

School Counselor Emails:

Flex Time Class

If you have been scheduled a Flex Time in your schedule, this will be a directed study hall during the day. This is an opportunity for you to get some work done during the academic day. These have only been scheduled to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders and not all students have them in their schedule. If you have one, use the time wisely.

1:1 Devices

Device Roll Out

All students will be issued a device within the first four weeks of school. Due to product availability, we will be issuing devices to students who need them first and rolling out to all others in the first month of school.

In order to be issued a device, parents/guardians must sign the following agreement and provide that to the school when picking up a device:

For new students who need a device and At-Home Students (students who will not be physically coming to school) who need a device ONLY
    • Monday, September 14th

      • 8:30 am - 9:30 am &

      • 12 pm - 2pm

Ninth graders who did not state they needed a device via survey will receive a Chromebook on orientation if you bring the parent/guardian signed agreement (above): Friday, Sept 18th

For all other students:
    • We will be distributing devices in stages over the next month of school

    • If you received a device last spring, you will need to exchange that device before being issued another device.

Busing Schedule and Information

Big picture

Bus Information

Bus schedules are set. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, we will not be able to accept newly enrolled (9/10 or later) students, issue bus passes or provide different bus stops/routes to students other than their assigned stops. All bus stop/route changes may take up to a three week logistical time to implement the change. This three week logistical change coincides with the DESE guidelines issued in July.

Students who do not follow ridership guidelines including wearing a mask and keeping socially distant may be removed from the bus and busing privileges may be revoked. CCT will be placing monitors on buses to ensure the safety of all students.

If in the poll in early August you the parent/guardian selected that you needed bus transportation and now do not need bus transportation, PLEASE contact the school at 508-432-4500 or dmcloughlin@capetech.us. Our buses are filled to capacity and knowing that someone no longer necessitates transportation will provide tremendous relief to our system.

Bus Schedules

Bus schedules are available below. You must ride the bus that has a stop closest to your residence. Students trying to ride buses not assigned to them will be denied.

No bus passes will be issued for after school. Students must ride their bus home regardless of work or need to go to a peer's house. All other transportation needs must be taken care of by the parent/guardian.

Academic teachers will be assigned only 9th or 11th graders during the Maroon Cycle or 10th or 12th graders during the Gray Cycle This has led to major scheduling changes and has caused delays.
