Attendance Matters at Wheaton Woods!
We want all of our students to succeed in school. For them to flourish and feel pride in their
growth & achievement, they must enter school on time and be present... every day. We
understand that our kids get sick or have doctor’s appointments. This is understandable.
Teachers will be sending instructional schedules home so you are aware of what subject your
child has and when. This can help with scheduling doctor’s appointments.
When your child is tardy: Tardy means your child is entering the building at 9:25 or later. You
can’t simply drop off your child. We ask parents to enter the front office and sign their child in
at the front desk. We will ask the reason for your child being tardy.
An excused tardy = a doctor’s appointment.
Unexcused tardy = overslept. Our teachers begin teaching at 9:25 am. We don’t want your child
to miss great instruction!
When your child is sick: Notify the teacher via email or Remind/Class Dojo. Call the front
office (240.740.0220) to let Ms. Winder know what’s happening. A handwritten notice or
doctor’s note should be sent when your child returns to school.
When your child avoids school (not wanting to attend): We need to know. As partners, we
can work with you and your child to address any barriers preventing a healthy interest in
school.
School Attendance is the law: Attending school is a legal matter. The district has a process
that WWES must honor when students are habitually absent. If your child continues to be
absent, we must take firmer steps to address the matter.
