Principal's Message
Dear Hays High School parents and students,
Welcome to October! October gets its name from the Latin octo, which means “eight”. Because it was originally the 8th month of the calendar. The number “eight” is said to be a symbol of wealth, prosperity, peace and fertility in many ancient cultures. October is historically the time of the year when farmers harvest their crops.
This week through our “Leader in Me” class lessons, our kids learned about the importance of “Choosing Your Weather” . What exactly does that mean? Well, it means no matter what the circumstances around us, we all have a choice to either look for the negative or focus on the positive. The idea is that we all make a choice in dealing with adversity and obstacles that are presented to us. After we get through the initial processing of a situation, how do you react? Take a peek at this weeks Leader in Me lesson that led to great discussion in advisory!
A few things to know:

We Have Spirit, Yes We Do!
Hays High School has been working hard for the past three weeks. Not only are the students succeeding in their academics, but they are showing their tenacity in returning to in-person learning. They have become very motivated to create an atmosphere that includes school spirit and positive vibes.
This past week, as part of our leadership initiative, we gave the students the challenge to decorate the doors of the classrooms with “Hawk Pride” during their Advisory time. As always, our students did not disappoint! They have filled our halls with positive messages reflecting The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, school spirit, and creativity.
The resiliency and synergy of our young adults continues to grow and spread throughout the Hays High School campus. We look forward to continuing to share our successes and growth in leadership with you in the upcoming weeks.
CONGRATS to our Door Decoration Winners!!

Wright This Minute with Dr. Wright
Hey Hays CISD Family! In this week’s edition of Wright this Minute (WTM), I recognize our Hays CISD Board of Trustees who have been named as the outstanding school board from Region 13 and advanced as one of the top 5 honor boards for the State of Texas. This weekend they will be interviewed for the opportunity to be named the Honor Board for the State of Texas for the 20-21 year. This is a well-deserved honor and I commend them for their outstanding service. Kudos to Chief Communication Officer, Tim Savoy, for creating an amazing publication for this submission. Our showcase employee of the week is JHS Band Director, Joey Lucita. Joey was named as the Foundation for Music Education’s Commended Winner in the New Music Division of the 2021 Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Ensemble!
Have a great day!
Eric
