This Is How We Lakeview
February 2023 Edition
Welcome to February!
February is a BUSY month for the junior high level. We have the end of Winter athletics, scheduling for the 2023-2024 school year, the start of Spring athletics and Black History Month. Please take the time to read through the newsletter as there are a lot of activities coming up!
Reminder that we will not see the students until Wednesday as we have 2 professional learning days for our staff on Monday and Tuesday. There are no new assignments for the students so this would be a good time to catch up on missing or late work and iReady or ALEKS lessons.
Due to the incident at Ridgeview this past week, our main office will be going back to several procedures that we put in place during COVID. 1. If you are here to pick up a student, please ring the bell for the main office. We will get the student and bring them out to you. 2. All visitors to the building MUST HAVE A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. Please call the main office (614)830-2200 to make an appointment with an administrator or school counselor or email that person directly and they will let the main office know to expect you.
We realize that the events of Thursday may cause additional stress and anxiety for our students. Please take the time to check in with your student over the long weekend. Students may experience a variety of emotions (anger, fear, anxiety, etc), please let them know that there is no wrong way to feel after a situation like this. If your student needs additional support, please reach out to a school counselor Chad_Gill@plsd.us (Last names A-F), Sarah_Geiger@plsd.us (Last names G-M) or Ryan_Max@plsd.us (Last Names N-Z).

Black History Month at Lakeview
Our staff and students have planned several activities to celebrate Black History Month.
Week 1 - Black History Month Kick-off
- Students will watch a video that explains Black History Month and then they will have the opportunity to decorate a blank tile with an inspirational word, phrase, or quote that will be displayed in the hallway.
Week 2 - Civil Rights Virtual Museum
- Students will have the opportunity to explore videos related to the Civil Rights Movement.
Week 3 - Black History Month Jeopardy Game
Week 4 - "Finding North" CAPA Education Performance
We will also be doing a school-wide Black History Month Contest (see below) and trivia questions in the morning announcements. Prizes will be awarded.
Level Up - Week 5
Teachers have been having data chats with their students to talk about their current iReady scores and predicted performance level for the upcoming Ohio State Tests (OSTs). Level 1 = Limited, Level 2 = Basic, Level 3 = Proficient, Level 4 = Accomplished, Level 5 = Advanced. We are also implementing some new interventions during class and E/I to help our students level up their performance on the state tests. Finally, we have brought back the iReady team challenge. Up until Spring Break, our teams will be completing for the iReady/ALEKS/Membean trophy by trying to get the highest average number of lessons passed per team. Last week Team C and Team D were in the lead. Encourage your student to work on their Personalized Learning Pathway and pass those lessons!
Scheduling for 2023-2024 School Year
The month of February and March begin our journey into looking into the courses our students will take next school year. In the upcoming weeks, students will be presented with information regarding scheduling courses. There will be an in-person parent meeting and Q&A session to go over scheduling information with counselors and administrators on March 1st at Lakeview Junior High in the cafeteria. March 2nd, there will be virtual parent meetings and Q&A sessions run for each junior high school. If for some reason you are unable to attend either meeting it will be recorded for families to be able to access the recording. Please continue to monitor upcoming communications with more details and links in regards to scheduling.
