Important Points for Parents
ALL Virtual Students
On June 15, please drop off all devices, hot spots and any textbooks you may have. During that time you will be able to pick up your yearbook if you ordered one.
There are some very fun events that we have planned here at school, and our virtual students are invited to them. We have already sent out separate emails with links and descriptions of the events along with a Google Form for parents to complete. Virtual parents, please make sure you have completed these forms so we can properly plan for our events. Please email your teachers and/or administration if you have any questions about these events. Here is a brief list of the events broken up by grades.
6th Grade - Field Day (June 15th)
7th Grade - Field Day (June 14th)
8th Grade - Spring Fling (June 16th), Field Day (June 17th), Recognition Ceremony (June 18th)
Face to Face Students with at Home Devices
Please bring in any devices, chargers, and bags that you have been using at home no later than June 15. All devices MUST be in by June 16 for inventory.
Please turn in any at home text books at that time also.
Yearbooks
As of this Friday the 11th, Ms. Shrum will not be taking any orders for yearbook. We still have plenty of extras left, but she needs to get homeroom stacks ready for distribution.
Extra yearbooks can be purchased in the front office for $40 on a first-come, first-serve basis on June 16-18.

End-of-Year Medication Pick Up
The last day to pick up your child’s medication (prescription or non-prescription) is Friday, June 18th by 11:45. Parents must come into the school to pick up the medication. The students are not allowed to carry medication home with them on the bus. Medication left after this date will be discarded per district policy. If you have indicated that your child has a medical condition that may require management in the school setting, please have all necessary paperwork completed during the summer before the start of the new school year.
The intention is to make it easier to obtain physician signatures and have the plans/medication forms in place by the first day of school. All paperwork must be updated by the physician annually. The paperwork was emailed in May. Please contact Staci Hyde, GHMS School Nurse, at 803-548-8313 or hydes@fortmillschools.org if you need a copy or have any questions. Thank you!

masks on busses
We at transportation want to thank all of you for your support through this year. To say that 20/21 school year has been different and challenging would be an understatement!
With the district’s change in policy regarding face coverings we have started to see a trend where many students feel they do not have to wear a mask while riding the bus. We are asking for your help in communicating to our students that, in accordance with federal regulations, all occupants of a school bus are required to wear a face mask. Our drivers will continue to remind them, and we still have masks available if a student forgets theirs at home.
Thank you in advance for helping the kids navigate these confusing times.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns,
We are all in this together!

parents of current 6th graders
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) wants to assure that all children and teens receive recommended vaccines to prevent disease. DHEC reminds parents and guardians that South Carolina law requires that all students entering 7th grade receive one (1) dose of Tdap vaccine. The Tdap vaccine protects preteens and teens from three serious diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). It is important to know that there are three other vaccines that all preteens and teens are recommended to receive: human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine, a cancer prevention vaccine, meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) that prevents some types of meningitis, and the yearly flu vaccine.
We are reminding you now so that you have time to plan for your child to be vaccinated early, before the start of 7th grade. To beat the back to school rush, summer break is good time to get these vaccines during a yearly health checkup. Talk to your child’s health care provider now about what vaccines he or she needs. You should also ask about these vaccines at a physical exam required for sports or camp. Don’t forget to make sure you get an updated SC Certificate of Immunization at the visit to give to your school nurse. This certificate is required by state law for school attendance.
Your local DHEC health department also can provide these vaccines. Call 1-855-472-3432 to make an appointment. For more information about vaccinations in South Carolina, go to http://scdhec.gov/Health/Vaccinations/
