Message from the Principal

Hello, Parents and Guardians of the Pawsome Pumas,

Cold, Cold, Go Away, Come again another day!!! This winter has hit us pretty hard, and it does not appear to be letting up in regards to the cold air. With that being said, I want to thank you for making sure that your son/daughter is wearing hats, gloves, scarves, and snow pants to school. We know that Spring is on the horizon.

As of the 2019 Spring Elections, Prairie will no longer be a polling place. I would like to thank Aaron Perry and members of the Common Council for listening to the concerns of the school and the school community. Thank you for making this change.

I want to thank all members of the PTA for providing the conference meal for the Prairie Staff. We know that you do not have to but we appreciate every act of kindness that you bestow upon us. We are #BetterTogehter!!!

Please join us this Tuesday for our PTA meeting. The representative from Step It Up, MaryLee Flannigan, will be in attendance. We did earn the day of Awesomeness/Excellence. At the meeting, we will unveil how much we raised and how the funds will be used. I look forward to seeing you there.

Have a PAWSOME Weekend!!!

Read Across America Week

"The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss

Educators and scholars had a wonderful week celebrating reading. Different guest readers came into the classroom to share Dr. Suess books with the students. Mr. Griffin had the opportunity to read books to every classroom in his Wacky Wednesday clothes. Third through fifth graders engaged in Battle of the Books on Thursday. A huge thanks to the PTA for purchasing extra copies of books for our event! The 2019 champions were Team Thunderclan which consisted of Isabelle, Elliott, Sophie, and Sara K. from fifth grade. We ended our week with an all-school read in. Below are some photographs from our amazing week of reading!

News from the Art Room

Congratulations to March's Artists of the Month. This month they are 4th grader, Sydney Mirkowski, and Kindergartner, Maleah Chan. Both of these ladies are leaders in the Art room and demonstrate high levels of creativity and craftsmanship in their work. They are also great behavior role models . Congratulations!

Also, special congratulations to Prairie Artist Sydney Mirkowski! Fourth grader Sydney, entered an Art contest over the Holiday break. The contest is the 2019 International Aviation Art Contest, and this year’s theme is called “My Dream to Fly”. Sydney found out on February 20th that she has won SECOND PLACE in the Junior Age Category, in the Wisconsin round. Sydney’s drawing is now being sent onto the National competition in March in Washington D.C. There is even a

chance that Sydney’s drawing could go on to the international competition in Switzerland!

Sydney’s drawing will also be on display at the Wisconsin State Capitol June 21st-July 5th.

Congratulations, Sydney, for using your creativity to create a beautiful drawing and also for taking the initiative to enter this contest. Best of luck to you on the National judging!

2019 Elementary School Swim Meet

Saturday, April 6th, 2019

CALLING ALL 3rd, 4th and 5th GRADERS!

Do you like to swim? Do you like to dive into the pool? If so, then you should consider joining the Prairie Swim Team.

Practice will begin in mid-March (Dates listed on permission slip below). We are only allowed up to 5 practices to prepare for the meet. Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible. We understand families have other commitments which may not allow swimmers to make every practice.

This event is for beginner/novice swimmers in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, to give them the opportunity to see what a swim team and a swim meet are like. Most importantly, it is to have FUN with friends and teammates.

The events are grouped by grades, 3rd graders vs. 3rd graders; 4th graders vs. 4th graders; and 5th graders vs. 5th graders. Girls race against girls; Boys race against boys. Individual 25 yd swimming events will have preliminary races and a final race of the top 8 finishers. Relay and 50 yd. events will be timed finals. Each swimmer can only participate in two individual events.

NOTE: Swimmers must not have been on a competitive swim team after October 2018!

The plunge is a dive into the water and participants glide as far as possible for distance.

25 yd Freestyle

25 yd Backstroke

25 yd Breaststroke

50 yd Freestyle

100 yd Freestyle Relay - 4 Swimmers. Coaches will announce relay teams at practice.

Raptor Check In Procedures

As you are aware, the district has started a new process for checking in visitors to the school. If you are coming in to the school during the day and staying in the building in any capacity (visiting for lunch, volunteering in a classroom, meeting with a teacher, etc), you will need to submit your driver's license. We will process it through our Raptor system and print a badge for you to wear. If you just need to drop something off or are signing in your child, you will not need to be checked in. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping all our scholars safe!
