Happy New Year ~~~ Feliz Año Nuevo
The Winter MAP and STAR assessment results will be going home along with 2nd Quarter Progress Reports on January 24th. This is a great opportunity to have a discussion with your student and see if they met the goals they set for themselves in the Fall. For our 3rd to 5th grade students, IAR testing is right around the corner in April and we want to make sure we are setting goals for our teaching and learning!
To continue assessing our student's skills, our classroom teachers will be administering F&P winter benchmark to determine their reading levels and in mid-January our English Language Learners will begin ACCESS testing to determine their listening, speaking, reading, and writing language skills.
There is a lot happening during the second half of the school year!
A couple of reminders....
- With the really cold weather upon us, we ask that parents ensure their students dress appropriately for the weather with hats, scarves, gloves, and winter coats. If your child has lost anything, our lost and found table has been accumulating a variety of items. Please come and claim any lost items!
- We still need your help! Don't forget that all our families are asked for their feedback by completing the 5 Essentials Survey at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/.

Health & Wellness
January is National Blood Donor Month. The month of January was first recognized as National Blood Donor Month in 1970. The American Red Cross reports January was chosen since winter is a often a difficult time to secure enough blood for patients’ needs. A variety of factors, such as inclement weather and seasonal illness, contribute to low blood donor turnout. In spite of this, the Red Cross must collect more than 13,000 blood donations everyday.
Komensky Elementary will assist in this effort by hosting a blood drive on January 22nd. The drive will be held in the gymnasium from 3:20 to 6:00 p.m. If you are interested in donating, please visit: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=Komensky to sign up! Thank you.
Salud y bienestar
