The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Greetings from Carleton!
Several students walked away with gift cards this week for participating in Red Ribbon Week and showing their school spirit. During all three lunches, all student names were put in an envelope and randomly chosen to win candy or a gift card to local establishments. Our last two days conclude with Monday, being Crazy Hair Day and Tuesday, being grade level clothing colors (6th is white, 7th is green, and 8th is black). Lastly, don't forget about the bonus day on Halloween - see the guidelines below.
We will be hosting our first Extravaganza on Thursday, November 1st. Tickets will be sold for $5 during all three lunches next week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Come shoot hoops, enjoy some music, or play Bingo for prizes. Don't forget to bring a little extra money for concessions. Hope to see you all there!
Lee's Lingo
I’ve always encouraged students to participate in extracurricular activities and to step outside of their comfort zone. Well, last night I took my own advice. I had the incredible opportunity of attending my first event at Carleton that was non-sports related. It was the Carleton Halloween Spooktacular and let me tell you it was spectacular! I did play the trumpet for a couple of years in middle school and always have enjoyed music, but last night I gained a greater appreciation of the music programs in schools. Under the direction of Ms. Lantto and Mr. Wolf, the 6th, 7thand 8th grade bands did an amazing job. As a former high school coach, I relate many things to the sports world. About half-way through the performance, it hit me, that band is no different than any sport. You have 90+ kids demonstrating teamwork to make the final product of that musical piece a “win.” You have a coach in Ms. Lantto that pulls it all together, building on everyone’s strengths. You have the students spending hours on their craft outside of school just like a kid practicing free throws in the back yard. Band is the ultimate team sport!
Halloween Dress Code
Hello Carleton Families,
Halloween is fast approaching and many students and parents have asked if they will be allowed to dress up for Halloween. We will be allowing students to dress up, provided that their costume is allowable within the school dress code. Below are some guidelines:
*Bare midriffs, stretch pants, exposed undergarments, etc. are not appropriate for school.
*No face paint or masks should be worn. We need to be able to identify your student.
*No props or look alike/fake weapons.
*Hats, tiara's, and other head wear are permitted but students must be able to take them off in class at a teacher's request.
*Costume selection should be in good taste and appropriate for school.
*Creativity is encouraged.
