Monroe Elementary School
Red Ribbon Week
What is Red Ribbon Week?
It is a way for the New Richmond Exempted Village Schools and the New Richmond Community to unite and take a visible stand against drugs.
The National Red Ribbon Week Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered a Drug Enforcement Agent by the name of Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA.
Monday "Team UP against Drugs Day"-Wear your favorite team jersey to show your support to say NO to drugs, alcohol, negative peer pressure and violence.
Tuesday "Truth or DARE, I choose Crazy Hair"
Wednesday "PJ Day-Follow Your Dreams, Be Drug Free" Students were permitted to wear appropriate pajamas to school.
Thursday "Sock it to Drugs Day"-students chose to wear crazy or mismatched socks.
Friday "My Future is Bright, No Drugs or Bullies in Sight"-Students dressed up in their favorite college clothing or they could dress up as their future career.

Our school district recognizes the need for students identified as gifted to receive differentiated curriculum that develops their abilities. The G.A.T.E.S. program is available to identified students in third through sixth grade. All second graders are screened for gifted identification in the month of November; however, gifted testing referrals are accepted for individual testing two times each school year. Referrals must be signed by a parent or guardian and received by October 31st and February 28th, respectively. Please contact Rachel Reynolds at email@example.com for a Gifted Referral Form.
