Updated Tutorials Schedule
Attention parents and students, you can find our most up to date tutoring schedule by clicking on the link below. Several teachers offer tutorials multiple days, so please make sure you attend!

Upcoming Staar tests
Attention Parents!
STAAR testing season is here! Below please find the upcoming test dates and some tips for helping your student be successful on the exams.
April 9 - 7th Grade Writing, 8th Grade Math, 9th Grade English I
April 10 - 8th Grade Reading
April 11 - 10th Grade English II
Tips for Success (adapted from study.com)
- Sleep. Because tests are four or five hours long, it's important to be well-rested.
- Eat Right. Eat a balanced breakfast and bring healthy snacks for test day. To keep energy levels up and avoid crashing, don't have too much sugar or caffeine.
- Arrive on Time. Parents, please bring your child to school on time so that they are not stressed from starting the test late.
- Take Breaks. A STAAR test is not a race. It's important that students go at their own paces and take breaks.
- Dress Comfortably. Make sure to dress in layers in clothes that are comfortable for long periods of time.
- Be Confident. A positive attitude goes a long way. Students who stress about tests may want to review this short lesson on how to beat test anxiety.
- Plan a Treat. Give yourself (or your student) something to look forward to. Plan something special - be it a movie, favorite dinner, or other outing - to celebrate when testing is finished.
Students, you still have time to prepare! Please make sure you're completing your software practice (ALEKS, No Red Ink, Khan Academy, HRW, Pearson, etc.) and that you're completing all of the practice material your teacher gives you. You should practice a little bit at home each night to make sure all of the content and skills are fresh on April 9! It's also a good idea to attend tutorials, and the schedule can be found here.
Please see this link for more information!

Middle School Promotion Guidelines
Middle School Promotion Guidelines
Many of you received a letter in the mail regarding potential retention of your middle school student. The promotion policy from the HPS board can be found below:
● Class Subjects: For promotion, students in grades 1-8 must achieve an overall cumulative average of 70 or above for all subject areas.
● NWEA MAP: Students in grades 1-8 must score in both Reading AND Mathematics NWEA MAP testing at or above the 10th percentile at least once throughout the current school year.
● Satisfactory Performance on STAAR Assessments: Students in grade 8 must perform satisfactorily on the Mathematics and Reading STAAR assessments, grade advancement tests for promotion. This school reserves the right to retain a student failing STAAR Assessments for grades 3rd through 8th.
● Attendance: For promotion, students must attend school 90% of the time to be automatically promoted in addition to the academic rules for gaining course credits.
If your student has failed to meet one or more of these criteria and does not show growth or improvement by the end of this semester, then there will be a committee that meets at the end of the year to determine if your student has demonstrated mastery of the current grade level standards and is ready to be promoted or if they should be retained. Please encourage your student to do their best in school, attend tutorials, and ask their teachers for help if they are struggling. Should you have any questions or concerns, please email our Dean of Academics, Stephy Overall, at soverall@harmonytx.org.

Naval Academy Summer Seminar
The United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school. Summer Seminar teaches students about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation's leaders. Students who are interested in pursuing an appointment to one of the nation's service academies and serving the country as an officer, are encouraged to apply for the Naval Academy's Summer Seminar. Some scholarships are available for tuition and travel on a financial-need basis. Students may inquire after selection.
Summer STEM
USNA Summer STEM is designed to spark and cultivate interest in the many academic disciplines which make up science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A hands-on, design-based program, Naval Academy Summer STEM will challenge students to think scientifically, problem-solve creatively, and work cooperatively in teams. Open to rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders, Summer STEM is led by USNA faculty and currently enrolled midshipmen and is a great fit for students looking to broaden their understanding of STEM study and careers. We add the student's name to our celebratory college admission board and we announce the student's name and college admission during announcements. Our goal is always to strive for continuous improvement. Let's go, Class of 2019!

Meal Charge Policy
Students are not allowed to purchase a la carte items if their account has a $0 or negative balance. If they are purchasing a milk, we will allow them one charge as a courtesy. The Lunch Clerk will inform the student and parent that there must be funds in the meal account for a la carte purchases. The next attempt to purchase a la carte items will be denied until the account shows a positive balance.
The district charge limit applies to reimbursable meals only and not a la carte purchases.

important message from attendance clerk
Attendance Clerk Mrs.Busby
Is your student absent today?
In general, there are two things school needs you to do if your student is going to be absent:
Call the school and report your child absent:
Please call (817) 354-3000 by 9:00 a.m.on the first and each day your student is absent or email the Attendance Clerk at: kbusby@harmonytx.org
Why are absence calls necessary?
Excessive absences are considered truancy under state law, the school reserves the right to take extreme absence cases to court. For detailed attendance information please read the Harmony Public Schools student handbook pages 13-15. We really appreciate receiving those calls and emails about absences first thing in the morning as it helps us ensure the safety of all of our students. Thank you!
Send a Written Note:
Upon returning to school, the student must bring a note, signed by the parent that describes the reason for the absence. A note signed by the student, even with the parent’s permission, will not be accepted.
Please do not send notes on post its, index cards or torn pieces of paper. Notes must be received within three days of the absence or the absence will be unexcused.
Extended Absence
Are you planning to take your student out of school for an extended absence? Pre-plan multiple day absences (for any reason) require advance approval by our Principal. Please call 817-354- 3000 or stop by the front office and we will walk you through the authorization process and arrange for homework to be prepared for your student to take with them.

Cafeteria News
Nutritious meals are available daily for a price of$1.70 for breakfast, $3.00 for lunch, and $0.50 for a la carte milk. Each student is provided a lunch account on to which money may be deposited. Households are also encouraged to log in to their child’s account (using the parent password), go to the “Lunch” tab, and click on ONLINE LUNCH APPLICATION to apply for free or reduced price meals. If you need the parent password reset, please call the school and ask to speak with the Lunch Clerk.
Should a student’s meal account balance fall below $0, he /she will be allowed to charge up to –$15.00.
