A Classroom Within A Classroom

Sprague School second-graders take notes while sitting on chairs they made out of cardboard. Their desktop is, of course, cardboard material, too. When browsing through their classroom library, students select a favorite book from their cardboard shelf.

As part of a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) project students in Enrichment Specialist Christie Wylie’s class decided they wanted to design and build their very own classroom in this Lincolnshire, Illinois school. For more pictures of the activity, please visit the school's Facebook page. To read the complete story, please visit the school's news bulletin.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher conferences provide a prime opportunity to discuss student learning. Research shows that when schools and families work together children tend to do better in school. Fall parent-teacher conferences at Sprague School will be held on Thursday, Nov, 21 and Monday, Nov. 25. Sprague teachers are creating their own individual conference schedules by reaching out to Sprague families. If you have any questions regarding conference times or availability, please contact your child's teacher. Parent-Teacher conferences are also a great time to visit our Lost & Found!

Winter Recess Guidelines

If the combination of temperature and/or wind chill is 5 degrees F or below, students will stay inside for recess. This guideline falls within the “safe” category for being outside for 30 minutes and allows students to go outside more frequently in the winter months. Please see the wind chill chart from the National Weather Service for details. Parents, it is important during these cold winter months to have your child dressed appropriately for outdoor recess with gloves, hat, boots, coat. Remember to label items so they can be returned if they are misplaced.

Pajama Drive

Sprague is collecting new pajama sets. Please send to school complete pajama sets from newborn to adult from any season. For every set of pajamas families donate, Scholastic Books will donate a new book to the school. Drop pajamas off at the front office between Nov. 11 and Nov. 25.

No School for Early Childhood

Thursday, Nov. 14 is a nonattendance day for early childhood Students. The program is holding preschool screenings at Sprague on this day.

Green Team Volunteers Needed

We are seeking volunteers to assist Green Team students collect food scraps in the lunchroom. The students will collect fruits and vegetables that would otherwise be thrown away in a landfill. Instead, they will compost the scraps. We could use parent support to help roll out the program. Please sign up to volunteer.
