December 2017 Edition I

What's Been Happening in the Library?

These last short weeks, we've been busy working with teachers and students on a variety of interesting projects. We've worked with...

  • Ms. Smith and Ms. Brown's students--the winners of our first quarter Silent Sustained Reading challenge.
  • Ms. Huftalen's 8th grade Civics classes on a lesson on identifying bias in the news and a lesson on propaganda techniques used in political campaign ads. Click here to access MediaBiasFactCheck.com, a handy website devoted to identifying potential bias in popular news sources.
  • 7th and 8th grade English students on a variety of research skills lessons: evaluating and selecting sources of information, conducting an effective key word search, plagiarism, and citation.

We've also hosted a variety of classes in the library, from Madame Barrau's French students and Ms. Blum/Barry's theater students, to Mr. Schlobach's 8th grade Civics students and Mr. O'Connor's 7th grade P.E. students.

Scholastic Book Fair!

Monday, December 4th-Friday 8th

The LMS library’s annual Scholastic book fair is its largest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds from the fair are used to purchase new books and equipment for the library. Students will be visiting the fair next week with their English classes. The book fair will also be open briefly before school (7:15-7:25), during lunch, during Lancer Time, and after school each day until 3:00pm. Parents, students, and teachers are encouraged to visit the fair, whether in person or online! Our online fair has an even larger selection of books and materials. Visit our online book fair! Orders take 5-10 business days to process, so don’t delay!

Books make excellent gifts! A number of LMS teachers have created book fair wish lists of books they would love to add to their classroom libraries. Students and parents are encouraged to check out our teacher wish lists—whether in person at the fair (see our poster!) or online, by clicking the “School Wish Lists” tab.
