Mrs. White's Kindergarten
December 5, 2014
Happy Friday!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break! The kids came back ready to learn this week.
Scholastic Book Fair:
Today was exciting because the class got to visit the Scholastic Book Fair for the first time! They were so excited to see all the books. Each child made a wish list to bring home. They were able to look around and write down 5 of their favorites. Starting Monday, you will be able to stop by the book fair and purchase books. You can also send money to school in an envelope, marked "Book Fair" and I will make sure they get a chance to go down and shop. There is also an on-line link that you can use to shop from home! It is also very helpful if you send in a list of the books they are wanting to purchase. This way the parent volunteers can make sure they get the right books.
Reading Logs:
Reading logs for December were sent home this week in a packet. Please use one for each week in the month of December. As a reminder, reading logs are due each Monday!

Classroom Update
Reading: We started Unit 5 this week, Wind, Rain, and Snow. This unit is all about the seasons and how things change. This week we worked on finding out how the seasons are the same and different using a compare and contrast chart. Next week our focus will be how seasons affect us. Students will focus on what they might wear and do during the different seasons. Our comprehension skill will be making connections to the text we read. We will be talking about what the stories we read remind us of.
Word Study:
Phonological Awareness: beginning and ending sounds in words
Letter of the Week: Ll
Sight Word: what (new blue cards were sent at the beginning of the week)
Writing: We are focusing on writing complete sentence that match the pictures we draw in our books.
Science: To go along with our plant unit, each student got to plant seed this week. Over the next couple of weeks, we will watch to see how they start to grow. Students will be observing their plants and recording their observations.
Headbands with 5th Grade Buddies!
We always have so much fun!
Team Work!
