Language:
Grammar: We will be working with adjectives this week and practicing using No Red Ink.
Wordly Wise: We will be beginning Lesson 8 this week. Activities A & B will be due on Thursday. The test over this unit will be on Friday, 2/2.
Math:
We will be working on metric conversions, money number stories, multiplying 2 by 2 digit numbers, and will be learning a multiplication game this week. Unit 4 focuses largely on different multiplication strategies. Students will be learning the box method, partial products, and lattice to multiply 2-3 digit numbers. I will never tell students they have to use a specific method on a test. The goal is to find at least one that they understand and can use accurately.
Reading:
I will be finishing Wonder in the next couple of weeks. We also will be starting some work with nonfiction reading strategies, specifically vocabulary and inferencing this week.
Indiana History:
We will be working on Indiana History this week in conjunction with our nonfiction reading strategies. Students will be learning about the earliest people who lived in Indiana. We will be covering Unit 2, Lesson 2, which focuses on the mound building Native Americans. Our test for this unit will tentatively be on 2/7.
Science:
We will be wrapping up our study of forces and motion this week. We will practice using the speed = distance x time formula again tomorrow and will take a quiz on Wednesday. We will be starting our unit on weathering and erosion on Wednesday.

Valentine's Day
As we look forward to celebrating Valentine's Day with our students at their classroom parties, this is a wonderful opportunity for us to emphasize the life skill of friendship with all of our students. As you are out shopping for Valentines to share with classmates, please select cards and/or trinkets that are inedible. This could include pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. Candy will not be distributed. Thank you for ensuring that all students can have a safe and fun celebration.
We have 27 students in our classroom and I will send home a class list on Friday. Students will need to bring a container to hold their Valentines on that day. In the past, some students have enjoyed decorating a box, while others have simply brought in a grocery bag. This is completely up to you and your child!
