Execution
The history
Hanging
Being hanged in the 17th century was horrible and brutal. Used mainly for "witchcraft," no thought was given to the often slow and painful death of the person being hanged. It was always public. The person to be hanged knelt at the foot of the gallows while a noose, or "halter," was tied around their neck. Then he/she was carried up a ladder and the other end of the noose was tied to a cross-beam and thrown to their death.http://www.lowestoftwitches.com/images/execution.JPG
