At Home Teacher Appreciation Week
Parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents - THANK YOU for continuing the learning at home during these crazy and ever-changing times. Not only are you doing your own school, working out of the home or working in the home but you have also become a teacher! With you and your perseverance, patience, enthusiasm, sense of humor, sense of humor, sense of humor and flexibility - WE'VE GOT THIS!
Apart Together
As we continue to grow our understanding and capacity of what At Home Learning looks and feels like, we also know that learners have strong connections with their classroom teacher and other staff members. Through small group meetings and some 1:1 interactions, our learners are continuing to grow.
Writing can sometimes be a challenge when the teacher is not right there - but when a 5K teacher is on with 5-7 students and their microphones are able to be unmuted, it is a lot like being at the table in the classroom. Learners are hearing feedback in real time with their teacher and it boosts both their self-confidence as a writer and the expectations they have worked for all year. In a small group students also become comfortable with their own voice using Google Meet to continue to grow as a learner.
And, we know our learners at home are likely struggling a bit to understand an end to a school year that none of could see coming. With that in mind, please reassure them that when it is safe to be together, we will. When we can celebrate the 19-20 school year, we will. When the 20-21 school year begins, they will be in the next grade and we will all be ok, we will. It is all certainly not what we expected, and we WILL be ok.
SHHHHH....Teacher Appreciation Week is this week!

At Home Learning
Does your child need new books?? Have no fear, we have a plan in place! THIS document will guide you through the process and you can have new books as early as May 7!
Please know that we do NOT expect student work to be perfect when it is submitted. In fact, we actually ask that your child submit the work he/she did on their own. It gives the classroom teacher a better picture of what your child is actually doing. For example, if your learner left school not proficiently using punctuation/capitalization and now the work being submitted is all spelled correctly and perfectly punctuated it does not give an accurate picture of student work. We appreciate the additional instruction or coaching you are giving your learners, their application of the teaching and coaching is what we are looking for! Please continue to reach out with questions or for support. We are here for you and together we will get through this!

From The Health Room
Student items stored in the health room will be distributed back to you on May 18 and 19. If you need something prior to those dates, please contact Mrs. Pick or Mrs. Cowell.
We hope you and your families are staying safe during this outbreak of respiratory disease caused by COVID -19 across the world. It's important to remain supportive of each other, and realize that all individuals can minimize the chances of spreading coronavirus by washing hands often, staying home when sick, and covering any coughing or sneezing with a tissue. The CDC does recommend wearing a mask or face covering in a public setting as many people do not know they have the disease; the mask protects people from becoming exposed to COVID -19 as the virus can linger in the air longer than they originally thought.
Please remember that KM outdoor facilities as well as playgrounds are closed and not available for use during this time as an additional means of stopping the spread of the virus. Anyone who becomes sick with symptoms more severe than an ordinary cold is advised to seek medical care. Please know that our Health Services Webpage has information you may find helpful and that KM is here to support you!
Wishing you healthy days ahead as we are hopefully on the road to recovery in our communities. Please inform the Health Room staff via email if your child has been exposed to or have been tested for COVID-19 as we continue to track illnesses in our community. We are here to help.
Take care, and wash your hands!

Lunch For ALL Families
There have been some additional questions regarding KMSD Lunches - FREE lunches are available for ALL CHILDREN 18 and UNDER in a household.
Thank you for your cooperation with this!
If you have questions, please email KMSD Director of Nutrition Services, Joe Claas at claasj@kmsd.edu.
Student KMSD Email Accounts
A reminder that student email accounts should be used for KMSD educational purposes only. They should not be used to sign up for other social media or online activities such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Although most of our students are too young for the requirements of these platforms, it does happen. If you wish to sign your child up, you would need to create a different email account not associated with KMSD. Please let me know if you have any questions.
