BISD Will Transition Away From Packets to Completely Online Learning

In response to the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Texas, and in an effort to keep our families and employees healthy, Bandera ISD will transition completely to online learning.

If you do not have a reliable computer at home, and are accustomed to picking up a paper packet for your child(ren) and have not already checked out a BISD Chromebook, you will be provided with the opportunity to check out a BISD Chromebook on Monday, April 6.

Families can download assignments while connected to wifi and access them at home without internet. Upon reconnecting to wifi, completed assignments can be uploaded. Detailed instructions will be provided. Wifi is available from vehicles in BISD parking lots, on Main Street through BEC, and in the parking lots of the county libraries.

The Technical Support button on the Learning@Home page houses tutorials and a form to contact BISD to request technical support.

Elementary Transition Away From Paper Packets

Elementary students will receive a final paper packet on Monday, April 6, and will have the option of checking out a Chromebook by completing the form at https://tinyurl.com/bisdchromebookcheckout. Elementary students will not have access to paper packets beginning the week of April 13.

Secondary Transition Away From Paper Packets

On Monday, April 6, 2020, all secondary students will access learning online. If a secondary student does not have a computer at home and needs to check out a Chromebook on Monday, a parent can complete the form to request a Chromebook at https://tinyurl.com/bisdchromebookcheckout.

**Secondary students, please don't forget that elective classes restarted this week, so if you haven't checked in with your elective teacher through Google Classroom or email, please do so.

Chromebook Checkout: Monday, April 6, 2020 10:00-1:00 & 5:30-6:30

BISD will conduct our third Chromebook distribution to ensure all of our students have the necessary technology to learn and grow academically at home.

As the district transitions to total online learning for our students,

it is very important that students who do not have a reliable computer on which to complete their assignments at home, check out a BISD Chromebook at one of the two locations on Monday.

**IMPORTANT** If you are planning on checking out a Chromebook, please fill out the Chromebook Checkout Form before you arrive to pick up your device. Please access the form at https://tinyurl.com/bisdchromebookcheckout.

Cybersecurity Information for Parents

Here are some tips from the Parents' Guide to Cybersecurity

  • Make sure the wifi you connect to is secured with a password
  • Be wary of "free" things online. They can be portals for viruses or worse
  • Keep antivirus programs up to date.
  • Make sure your children never share any personal information online unless you approve
  • Even the best web filters and antivirus programs are not 100% effective. Don't allow your children to use computers unsupervised
