Red Ribbon Round Up 2016
Red Ribbon Round Up 2016
By: Janet Wilson
On Monday, October 24th was Red Ribbon kick off day at SLS. The school doors were decorated with red and white balloons, ribbons, and banners. The banner were designed to look like red ribbons and each banner was colored and signed by an SLS student grades K - 3 as a Pledge to be Drug Free. Our theme for Monday was Farming Out Drugs. Students wore flannel shirts, jeans, overalls, boots, and hats. Each student was greeted by a red latex band inscribed with our school logo and and a positive message to live healthy. Grades K-2 were gifted boxes of Crayola crayons and coloring pages each day of the week that coincided with the theme of the day.
Student Council Red Ribbon Wednesday
The Red Ribbon theme for Wednesday, October 26th was Be On the Drug Free Team. SLS students were very excited to wear their favorite team's apparel. Kids in Mrs. Farmer, Mrs. Konradi, Miss McKee and Mrs. Laker’s class all received Nerf mini-missiles along with their coloring sheets. Kids in Mrs. Linville and Mrs. Bossert’s class got colorful sweatbands while Mrs. Weigel’s and Mrs. Hollins classes were treated with supersized lollipops. 5th graders at SLS were presented with Color-Changing Stadium Cups. The highlight on the day was the Knockout Tournament held between grades 6-8 in the Activity Center.
8th Grade Winners from Team Wilson: Betsy Harmeyer and runner up Lauren Gutzwiller. Winners from Team Paul: Sam Voegele and runner up Leila Savage.
Pictured below is the SLS version of an ESPN highlight.
And the crowd goes wild!
And on her 36th attempt, and exhausting all other options, Miss Ruschke sinks one from the block.
A special thanks to Miss Trenkamp for her time and expertise to make this year's Knockout Tournament a success.
