From the Principal - I am... excited!
Visitors Anticipated - Watch your email for notice from the district.
In anticipation of the district allowing parents and visitors to be on campus during the school day (Very exciting!), I want to make sure that you know about the protocols that are required. Please wait for a district announcement before planning to visit.
- Bring an ID. Per district requirements, visitors must have their driver's license scanned and entered into the Raptor visitor system. This system runs a background check on all visitors.
- Students will still walk independently to class. This has always been our procedure, even before 2020. If you need to speak to a teacher in person, please contact the teacher and make an appointment.
- Eating lunch with your child: The blue picnic tables in the hallway are for parents to eat lunch with their child. Parents are not permitted to eat lunch inside the cafeteria due to spacing constraints. With over 900 students, our cafeteria is packed! The teacher will bring the class to the cafeteria, so you can meet your child in the lobby. You may go through the serving line and purchase a cafeteria lunch, or you may bring food. Please know that you may not bring students other than your own child into the hallway for lunch. Lunch times are on the document linked below. Also, lunch visitors must stay in the front lobby and cafeteria areas of the school. Do not return to class with your child unless you are "volunteering." See number 4 below. Please come early to allow time to go through the process of getting a visitor's badge. Sometimes there is a line of visitors getting a badge at the same time.
- Volunteering: We are excited about this! Teachers would appreciate help making instructional materials, reading with students, etc. To be on campus as a volunteer, it is a district requirement that you fill out the Volunteer Application which includes a background check. Please know that it can take 2-4 weeks for approval. You will receive an email from the district upon approval.
Please call the front office for any questions about visiting the campus. 512-594-4100
New Student Enrollment Open
Enrollment for students new to Riojas for the 2022-2023 school year is open starting Monday, March 21. All of the information needed, including the forms that must be completed can be found at this link: https://www.pfisd.net/domain/232
Existing PreK students already attending Riojas: Families should send in one proof of residency to the office. (PreK students are required to attend their home campus for Kindergarten. Riojas is a home campus for our Bilingual students.)
Existing K-5 students: If your child is a current K-5 student at Riojas, you do not need to re-enroll, but you will be required to complete a verification that will come through email in April.
Enrolling new students before the end of the school year is very important, because we base staffing numbers on enrollment numbers. If we need more teachers, we would want to know that now instead of knowing that in August. Please pass this information along to all your new neighbors!
Please contact our registrar, Monica Evans, for any enrollment questions. Monica.Evans@pfisd.net or 512-594-4100.
Family Survey
Dear Families,
Our district values your feedback! We are asking you to take a brief survey to tell us about your experience with your student’s campus. We want to know what you think.

RES still needs a Field Day T-shirt Sponsor
We have one sponsor for our shirts so far! Woohoo! If anyone would like to help, please give us a call by March 25th.
Previous Info:
For many years one of our neighboring businesses has supported our field day by purchasing a t-shirt for each student at Riojas. Due to circumstances, they cannot do this for us this year. If you would be interested in helping or funding this, please contact Principal Siegel, Coach Hughes or Monica Budmon at school. If you know someone who could be interested, please let them know about the opportunity and to contact us if interested. (We have 910 students and we are hoping to hear from someone this week or next.) Thank you!
Cultural Show and Tell - Sharing Our Similarities and Celebrating Our Differences
Sharing Our Similarities and Celebrating Our Differences
On March 31st we will take some time in each class for students to present to their classmates. Parents please help your student identify a tradition, celebration, holiday or aspect of your culture to celebrate. Your student will bring an item to school to share with their classroom. Each student's presentation should only be about 1-3 minutes. Teacher will capture these moments via picture and place the students on our Show and Tell Wall of Fame. Our hope is that students are able to learn something new about their classmates and celebrate how diverse our school is!
Ideas for ways to share:
- pictures
- dress up in cultural wear
- bring an item used for family traditions
- speak or sing in your language
Spring PE Clubs
Spring PE clubs are being planned to start in March. If you'd like to help with a club or have an idea for a club, please check out this link.
Only park in the handicap parking spaces if you have a handicap plate or placard. These spaces at the front of our school are not for loading and unloading of students.

School Report Card Notification
Linked below you will find a copy of the State of Texas 2020-21 School Report Card for Riojas Elementary. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. It is to be sent to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures.
The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and is briefly described in the enclosed “2020–21 School Report Card Definitions.” The report for our school may or may not have all the information described because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school.
State law requires that the school report card display information about the state, the district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status of the students and must include at least two years of results.
The School Report Cards can be found online at https://tea.texas.gov/Student_Testing_and_Accountability/Accountability/State_Accountability/Performance_Reporting/School_Report_Cards
A more complete report about Riojas Elementary, the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), is available by contacting my office or can be accessed online at https://tea.texas.gov/Student_Testing_and_Accountability/Accountability/State_Accountability/Performance_Reporting/Texas_Academic_Performance_Reports

School Safety
Arrival and Dismissal
If you park on Crispin Hall at drop off or dismissal, please do not allow your students to walk across Crispin Hall without an adult.
Everyone should be using the crosswalk and it is VERY unsafe to allow students to walk across the street by themselves.
If you park on the opposite side of Crispin Hall, please use the crosswalk.
Do not park in the red zones (curb painted red). It is very difficult for cars to see around parked cars to leave the school parking lot.
Lead by example and show our students how we can be safe and kind to our neighbors.
Remember:
Be Safe.
Be Respectful.
Be Responsible.
Tardies and Attendance
Way to go Patriots! Our average number of tardies is down this month! Let's have a strong finish this last nine weeks for attendance with everyone being at school every day and ON TIME! This last part of our school year is critical in our overall success as a campus. We have alot of learning left to do and our end of year assessments are coming in May. Let's make every day count! Our teachers and I appreciate your support by making sure you child is rested and at school every day.
Checking Out Your Child Early
We would like to respectfully ask that early check outs be for high need situations only and only on rare occasions. Please try to schedule doctor appointments and trips out of town for AFTER school hours.
Special Areas Schedule
Parents,
This rotation for students was created with the purpose of creating small groups in each Special Area classroom. Students have been assigned their own color group for specials. (It is no longer by homeroom.) Please ask your child what his/her color is for specials and then use the attached calendar to know what specials class they will attend each day. We are on a 6 day rotation (A-F), so they will have 4 days of PE, one day of Music, and one day of Art.
Specials Rotation 2021-2022
Parents, please make sure your teacher knows how your child will go home.
