In Season Fruits & Veggies - Fun Facts!
Lychee
Lychees have been grown in China for more than 2000 years. Get to the fruit by piercing with a fingernail, peeling back half the skin and squeezing out the fruit. There is a single large seed in the middle.
How to Select
Choose lychees with red shells that are heavy for their size. Brown patches indicate sweeter fruit.
How to Store
Refrigerate lychees in a plastic bag for up to 10 days.
Nutrition Benefits
Low in fat, cholesterol free, sodium free, excellent source of vitamin C.
Jackfruit
A jackfruit can weigh up to 100 pounds and grow up to 3 feet long.
How to Select Jackfruit
A few days before the fruit is ripe, jackfruit will give off a sweet smell. It should “give” when you press on it.
How to Store Jackfruit
Store jackfruit in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Frozen jackfruit can be stored for more than 2 months.
Nutrition Benefits of Jackfruit
Fat free, saturated fat free, cholesterol free, and sodium free. Excellent source of vitamin C. Good source of fiber, vitamin B2, copper, manganese, magnesium, and potassium.
Honeydew Melon
Like most melons, honeydews taste better if left unrefrigerated for a few days.
How to Select
Choose well shaped honeydew melons that are nearly spherical. Should have a waxy, not fuzzy surface and feel heavy for size.
How to Store
Store honeydew melons at room temperature. Once cut, store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

cholesterol free; high in vitamin C.
