Compere Corner: XLT Update
Last week we began our first round of academic XLT classes. This is an exciting opportunity for our kids to get exposure to various topics that are not currently a part of their grade-level curriculum. I wanted to share some information about XLT so you are aware of how it is run.
Earlier this school year, we informed you that Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 administers FastBridge benchmark assessments in reading and mathematics three times a year to measure studentsā academic achievement and growth. This initiative is part of an overarching district-wide program known as Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
When data indicates a child is experiencing academic difficulty, staff provide targeted or intensive support through interventions like differentiated instruction, additional practice, etc. If your student has been identified as needing additional support, you will receive an emailed letter.
Additionally, if your childās data shows that they are excelling, staff will provide targeted extensions of our curriculum.
ALL students will rotate on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to an academic group. Some students will receive targeted interventions and others will be placed in a group planned around exposure related to math/reading/writing.
On Mondays and Tuesdays, students will stay with their current XLT teacher, focusing on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards.

Crystal Lake businesses welcome D47 students after school, but they are expected to be respectful and responsible. If your child is planning to go downtown with friends, please talk to them about this and stress the importance of respecting our local businesses, their customers and our community. Thank you!
