JCPS Goal: By the end of the 2023-24 school year, 100% of Johnston County Public Schools will earn a school letter grade of A, B, or C.
Our vision:
SES students are life-long learners encouraged by home, school, and the community. They will meet the challenges and high expectations of an ever-changing world. They will work to their fullest potential to make a positive difference in the school, community, and the world.
Welcome to Our Family and Community Newsletter
DEAR SES FAMILIES,
Happy November!
We continue to have fantastic weeks at SES. Our students are focused and determined to build excellence. We look forward to working together this month during our first Academic Parent Teacher Teams event. Teachers are working diligently to have your students' data ready and provide you with resources to support them at home.
The first round of MVP benchmark assessments will start this month. The dates are outlined below. Please ensure your child attends school daily and stays in school the whole day. Good attendance will yield high levels of learning.
Our Cash to Cards fundraiser continues. Please support our school by purchasing these cards. The cards offer discounts and special offers at businesses in the Smithfield area and its vicinity. The cost of each card is $10.00.
Please consider joining our Parent Advisory Council. We are looking for two members who are committed to the improvement of our school. Please visit our PAC website or contact Ms. Rosado to learn more about how you can apply.
Thank you for your support.
Respectfully,
Ms. Rosado

CKH Social Contract Focus Word
We will continue to highlight our social contract focus word of the month and challenge our SES family to participate in challenges related to the word each week. The focus words are concepts commonly found on social contracts and will help to keep us all focused on upholding the things we’ve agreed to do and value. Each month the word is different, and every week, students can participate in challenges that allow them to practice the social contract focus word of the month. Every student, family, and staff member can do the challenges!
The social contract focus word this month is TEAMWORK. We’re challenging students to work together toward a common goal and shared purpose. We are partnering with you to grow and develop teamwork in your child. We can do this by modeling gratefulness, acknowledging positive moments, and affirming each other. Use this month’s activities to practice working together and celebrate your family as a team. To help support teamwork at home, please take a look at the challenges for this month and discuss or participate with your child at home.
Focus word of the month challenges can be found here.

School Calendar Updates
As mandated by general statute, all Pre-K through 5th grade JCPS teachers are entering the second year of LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training. In order to facilitate this work and support our teachers as they complete this task, it was imperative that additional revisions were made to the 2022-2023 student and staff Calendars. Therefore, the following Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability recommendations were approved:
- December 15, 2022 was changed to an Early Dismissal Day
- December 16, 2022 was changed from a Early Dismissal Day to a Required County Workday (LETRS Virtual Session)
- January 30, 2023 was changed from a Required School Workday to a Required County Workday (LETRS Virtual Session)
- January 31, 2023 was added as an Optional Teacher Workday (End of semester)
- June 12, 2023 was designated as a Required County Workday (LETRS Virtual Session)
You can find the revised calendars posted on the homepage of our district’s website, or by visiting www.johnston.k12.nc.us/calendar.
