Fredericksburg

  3. The Union Army's futile frontal attacks on December 13 against entrenched Robert E. Lee's Confederate defenders.

Emancipation Proclamation


The Emancipation Proclamation was a presidential proclamation.

It was issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.

It proclaimed the freedom of slaves in the ten states that were still in rebellion, except a couple areas controlled by the Union.
