Students Serve as Consultants for Calgon Carbon

AHS Physics Students served as business consultants to Calgon Carbon executives. The students were challenged with the task of using granulated activated carbon (GAC) in creating prototypes of products for food odor control. To do so, they performed research on GAC before creating and testing their prototypes. The Entrepreneur class created a marketing plan to support the products. Avonworth also collaborated with S. Fayette High School, who worked with a similar idea for locker room odors. The two schools visited the Calgon Carbon offices and communicated with each other through videoconferencing. A final presentation of Avonworth's product solutions were made to executives at Calgon Carbon on March 9, 2016. The project was sponsored by the Global Passport Project and was profiled on WESA Radio (http://wesa.fm/post/high-schoolers-tackle-body-odor-and-stinky-sinks-business-pitches)
