Brightwood Tiger Weekly News
2001 Brightwood School Rd Greensboro, NC 27405
Week of January 9 - January 13, 2023
Good Evening Brightwood Tiger,
This is Principal Stokes. Welcome to another great Game Changing Week! Please remember we welcome our Tigers into the building beginning at 7:05 am and the tardy bell rings at 7:25 am. Our third and fourth grade students will be taking their math benchmarks on Friday January 13th. We will have our School Based Leadership Team meeting on Tuesday at 3:00 pm in the media center.
As we change the game, we have to change some of our habits, behaviors and attitudes that was not allowing us to be our best towards our personal greatness. As a school we are working to decrease our tardies and increase our daily attendance. Please know that when students are constantly absent and/or late they are missing valuable instructional time that we cannot get back. Attendance does matter, missing two days of school a month may not seem like much, but it can add up to a child being considered chronically absent. Frequent absences can have an impact on your child’s success in school. We are working to create and maintain a safe, caring, nurturing, positive learning environment for everyone. For this to be possible we need the support of our entire community with academics, social interactions, emotional and behavioral control.
At this time all students in grades Kindergarten through fifth that were issued a One Card. All students are expected to wear their One Card to school daily. If the student does not have their issued One Card it will need to be replaced or ordered if your child is new to Brightwood. A new One Card cost five dollars each time it is lost.
Please make sure that your child brings his/her device and charger to school. Students are expected to read each night for 20 -30 minutes. If you are curious as to what your child is learning each instructional day be sure to reach out to child’s teacher and ask to be added to your child’s class as an observer.
Parents please remember our safety protocols include that parents are not allowed to enter the building during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. We welcome you to contact the school and/or your child’s teacher to schedule 15-minute classroom visits and meetings during non-instructional times. We also ask that parents not park in the bus parking lot at any time unless you have special circumstances with prior approval from me.
School dismissal will begin at 2:13, instruction ends at 2:10 pm. Please remember that you must have your government issued photo ID with you each time you need to pick your child up early for appointment and emergencies which must be before 1:45 pm. We ask that you limit picking your child up early because they are missing valuable instructional time when they are being picked up early multiple times.
We thank you so much for all that you do! Remember it is always a Great Day to Be a Brightwood Tiger! Have a wonderful evening remember to be amazing, because you are Amazing.
Love Always your Proud Principal
Ms. LaTrice Stokes
