Wishing You A Happy Easter
Grading Period Ended
They started a math Benchmark assessment on Thursday but many did not finish. Several did not finish despite their best efforts so I am NOT counting that test on this grading period.
Awesome Act of Kindness By High School Seniors
I brought Tyler home as his Foster mom when he was 6 days old. I had no idea until a week later, at a 2 week doctor visit, that he had Down Syndrome. I cried all the way to my mom's house. My heart broke for him because I was so worried about how mean kids would be to him. After 6 months of persistently bugging the DSS worker, asking if we could adopt him, we were finally blessed enough to make him ours.
As the years passed, I was pleasantly surprised at how students embraced Tyler. But with all of the acts of kindness I saw from other kids, the most touching came this past week.
The student interns at AC Reynolds knew that Tyler was going to the prom and they thought it would be cool to help Tyler pull off a Promposal. Now, when I was in school, a guy just asked a girl to the prom. However, now it has become a major production of creativity. The interns knew that Tyler had a girlfriend, Beth, who also has Down Syndrome. They have been "sweethearts" for over 6 years. So they arranged an amazing Promposal. They went as far as to play the song that Beth and Tyler had danced to at the Homecoming dance and bought the flowers, balloons and made the sign. It was posted on Facebook and has gotten over 20, 000 views and has been shared by WLOS as well.

click on the link below. We would love for it to go viral to show that kids with special needs have hopes, dreams and feelings just like all other non "disabled" students and to show how there are many awesome , unselfish kids in the world despite the grim picture painted by the news about the youth of our day. Please feel free to share this with as many people as you like.
I shared this with my class to show them how much a compassionate, unselfish act of kindness can make such a difference in a person's life.
