Principal Arellano's Post

Greetings Cougar Families!

Welcome back to school! We hope that you have had an amazing summer. We are so excited to welcome our students back. We have spent the summer and especially the last week engaged in professional development and data meetings preparing our instructional model to provide the BEST educational experience for our students this year. Last year we were honored as a National ESEA reward recipient. Only two schools are chosen in the State of Colorado each year for this prestigious award. We know that a major contributing factor to our success with students is your continued effort in partnering with us. Let's continue to work together to make this the best year yet!

Beginning of Year Student Packet

We would like to thank those of you who were able to join us for our Welcome Back night on Friday. If you were unable to make it, please look in your student's backpack for a packet that includes important documentation. The packet included paperwork that we need to be returned for our records as well as documentation for your review. We appreciate your prompt attention in completing and returning the needed documents by the end of the week.

Habits of Success Focus: Sense of Belonging

    ROARS Focus: Attitude

Sense of Belonging helps our students in the following ways:

    • Improves students' social, behavioral, and academic outcomes.

    • Increases student achievement and decreases the chances of risky behavior that can contribute to poor attendance.

    • Increases a sense of community. It helps students understand that school is safe and a place where they can be their authentic selves.

    Dinner Table Prompts:

    • What is one way that you can feel more supported by the people at school and home?
    • Why is it important to connect with others who have similar interests?
    • Why is it important to connect with others who have different interests than our own?
    • In what way can we welcome new people to our community?
    • In what ways can you connect with new friends?
    • Why is it important to listen to others when they are speaking to you?
    • Why is it important to listen to others who have different ideas than our own?
    • In what ways can we remain respectful when a peer has a different idea than our own?

Cougar Alert

  • All visitors must check-in at the front office prior to entering the school building with a picture ID.

  • During arrival and dismissal, please maintain the speed limit, stop for students and adults in the crosswalk, and avoid blocking the street. We are partnering with our SROs to ensure speed limits and traffic laws are followed for the safety of our students and community members. Please drop and pick students up from our Kiss and Go lane located in the west front parking lot.

  • Please do not drop students off prior to 8:00 a.m. as we do not have duty staff available for supervision.

  • All afterschool clubs will end at 4:15. Please be sure to have your student picked up on time. Please be sure to check your Remind app for cancelations or changes to schedules.

Staff Recognition

Please send Mrs. Arellano an email if you would like to recognize one of our staff members for the amazing work they do each and every day with students. Staff recognitions will be submitted to our district Good Newsletter and be featured on our Cougar Connect Community Edition. Mrs. Arellano can be reached at arellanos@wsd3.org.
